The municipal water system in the village of Akron is showing its age.

The council has had several meetings with Senator Gary Peters office, Fleis and Vandenbrink, and others about the village's aging water infrastructure, proposed upgrades, meters, and grant funding.

There was a power-point demonstration during last month's meeting that explained the importance of investing in water meters.

It was pointed out that if water meter issues are not addressed it would be difficult for the village to secure grants for water infrastructure work.

During the last council meeting, it was decided to increase the fee for water usage by $1 and to increase the sewer rate usage by 44 cents.

Also it was reported the DPW cleaned the storm drain on North Main Street, but that did not help the situation. It was determined there was more of an issue with it than first thought. So that drain will have to be repaired and not just cleaned of debris.

To help with such work, the council approved the $650 purchase of a backpack leaf blower.
