Steven Jason Jones, was arraigned today on a felony charge of controlled substance possession, specifically methamphetamine.

He faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine if convicted.

Prosecutors argued against his release, citing his history of two bench warrants from Michigan and two felony warrants from Florida for failing to appear, calling him a significant flight risk.

However, defense attorney Michelle Siev countered, emphasizing Jones has five minor children and works cleaning homes, arguing he is not a flight risk.

The judge ruled that the previously posted $5,000/10% bond would continue, but with strict new conditions. Mr. Jones must remain in jail until he can be fitted with a GPS tether tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.. He is also prohibited from possessing or consuming controlled substances, including marijuana, and must meet with pre-trial services for drug testing.

Attorney Elizabeth Weisenbach has been appointed to represent him for the remainder of the case.

A probable cause conference is set for February 12th, with a preliminary exam on February 23rd, though the court will coordinate with attorneys to finalize the exam date due to scheduling complexities, due to his wife being a co-defendent.
