The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is reminding Super Bowl hosts to prioritize food safety when preparing and serving snacks. Key tips include:
- Clean hands and surfaces: Wash hands for 20 seconds and sanitize utensils, especially after handling raw meat.
- Prevent cross-contamination: Keep raw meat separate from fruits and vegetables.
- Serve safely: Avoid leaving food at room temperature for more than two hours and rotate dishes to keep them fresh.
- Monitor temperatures: Hot foods should stay above 140 degrees F and cold foods below 40 degrees F; leftovers should be reheated to 165 degrees F.
- Proper storage: Use shallow containers for leftovers and refrigerate promptly.
MDARD also encourages featuring Michigan-made products for game day snacks and sharing creations on social media with #MIMade4SuperBowl.
