The U.S. Senate has passed a bipartisan Fiscal Year 2026 funding bill that includes investments championed by Sen. Gary Peters to support local economic development, small businesses, and workforce initiatives across Michigan. The legislation also reinforces protections for independent government watchdogs.
As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Peters helped secure funding for a range of community-focused projects, including support for small businesses affected by unusually mild winters, expanded entrepreneurial services in Wayne County, workforce and small business facility upgrades in Grand Rapids, and preservation of historic labor records in Lansing.
The bill also boosts access to capital in underserved communities through continued funding for community development financial institutions and credit unions.
In addition, the legislation strengthens federal oversight by providing robust funding for Offices of Inspectors General and ensuring they maintain full access to agency records, reinforcing accountability across federal programs.
