U.S. Sen. Gary Peters helped advance a bipartisan Senate appropriations bill that directs federal funding to workforce development, education, health care, and community support initiatives across Michigan. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Peters secured funding for projects ranging from aviation and cybersecurity training to rural health care access and clean water research.
The Fiscal Year 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education bill includes investments in K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities to expand career and technical education, skilled trades training, and health care workforce pipelines. Several aviation, aerospace, and cybersecurity programs across the state are slated for upgrades, alongside expanded support for veterans, underserved students, and rural learners.
The measure also prioritizes public health, including continued support for Flint residents impacted by lead exposure, resources to address PFAS contamination, funding to combat youth opioid addiction, and investments in mental health services. Additional provisions support rural hospitals, protect heating assistance for low-income families, expand child care access, and strengthen emergency response and labor standards enforcement.
Peters said the bill reflects bipartisan efforts to improve health outcomes, strengthen workforce readiness, and support long-term economic growth for Michigan communities.
