In a Michigan courtroom, Kory Thomas Krauseneck has pleaded guilty to illegally hunting a deer, admitting he used bait and was unaware his actions were against the law.

Krauseneck appeared for a plea cutoff hearing in the case.

The prosecution offered a plea deal, stipulating the animal taken was a doe, not a buck. Krauseneck, under oath, pleaded guilty to taking a deer, stating, "I'm guilty". He confirmed using corn as bait and expressed his lack of awareness regarding the illegality of possessing and hunting the deer.

During sentencing, his defense attorney highlighted Krauseneck's indigent status, noting he resides at a shelter and recently started a new job.

The court imposed no jail time but ordered $465 in fines and fees, plus $1,000 in restitution, totaling $1,465. Krauseneck was strongly advised to set up a payment plan to avoid further penalties.

Additionally, his hunting license was suspended for the remainder of the current year plus the three following years, covering 2027, 2028, and 2029, a mandatory requirement for the conviction.
