Some new fire equipment will soon be ordered in one Huron County Township.
The Sherman Township Board of Trustees were recently informed that the township will be receiving a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) grant for $4,999. The grant, which the township will have to match, will be used to buy turnout gear.
Although the grant was received in late 2025, it was decided the equipment will be bought this year, and that the matching funding to buy it will come out of the township's 2026 - 2027 budget.
Also, an adapter, costing $300, has been ordered for pond retrieval of water and that a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) screen has been set up in the fire hall.
Besides updating fire equipment, it was reported that the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has given notice that a bridge repair/replacement project is being planned for a bridge over Sucker Creek.
In other township matters, the board appointed Dan Volmering and Robert Tenbusch to three year terms on the Planning Commission. Their terms will each expire on Dec. 31, 2028.
