A legal battle is brewing in Tuscola County between two entities over control.
The county's board of commissioners had asked the county's road board to place additional traffic signals at six intersections that have been the sites of several crashes, and for the road board to provide information on finances.
Neither request has happened.
Because commissioners feel strongly that the additional signals are needed to save lives, they purchased flashing lights to go on stop signs and rumble strips.
The road commission has hired a lawyer who is contesting the commissioners right to buy and have the signals installed with or without the road commission's help, and that it is up to the road commission to do a study of need.
During the last county meeting, county commissioners approved allowing Controller - Administrator Erica Dibble, to start the process of drafting potential ballot language. The proposed ballot is to disband the road commission board and to put the road commission under the Tuscola County Board of Commissioners.
The proposed plan is to put that issue on the August ballot.
