In an effort to better service its residents, the Oregon Township Board of Trustees approved the Development of a new website with better capabilities.
Along with that, a search tool will allow visitors to view agendas and minutes using a searching tool. The change also includes the Planning Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Visitors will be able to look at the current meeting information and be able to search past meetings for specific meeting details.
The township's new website will be www.oregontwpmi.gov.
In other matters, the township is eying a special assessment to fund police and fire services.
The sheriff's department that provides police coverage to the townships reported they responded to a total 136 calls for Oregon Township, 100 calls were handled by township officers.
Also, the township is looking to ask for the renewal of the Police and Fire Special Assessment Districts, which if approved would begin July 1, for a period of six years for both services.
As part of this discussion, the Board is reviewing estimated assessment levels based on projected service costs.
Preliminary estimates indicate that funding two police officers would result in an estimated per-parcel assessment of approximately $73 for police services.
For fire services, the cost is estimated at approximately $64 per parcel.
The current Fire assessment is $40 per parcel and did not fully cover the cost of fire services.
In recent years, the township has supplemented police and fire service costs from other revenue sources when assessment revenues were insufficient.
The purpose of this recent discussion is to consider assessment levels that more closely align with actual service costs, which may allow greater flexibility within the township's overall budget, including road funding.
The proposed special assessment will be the focus of a public hearing at 7 p.m. on March 10.
Also, the clerk announced there will be a Primary Election in August and a General Election in November.
