Senate Approves Bipartisan 2026 Funding Bill

The Senate has approved a bipartisan fiscal year 2026 funding bill that includes provisions backed by U.S. Sen. Gary Peters to support Michigan manufacturing, public safety, and Great Lakes protection. The Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies measure now goes to the president for signature.
The bill preserves federal manufacturing programs, expands research in advanced technology and science, and directs funding to law enforcement, violence prevention, and substance abuse response. It also provides support for local public safety projects across Michigan.
Environmental funding in the legislation strengthens Great Lakes research, monitoring, and conservation efforts, while additional investments support workforce development, STEM education, census preparation, and job training programs statewide.
