Saginaw residents took a close look inside the city's nearly 100 year old Water Treatment Plant as officials weigh options for its future.

City water director Mike Greenier said the facility still functions well but relies on outdated infrastructure that will require major investment to modernize. The most likely path forward involves keeping the historic building and upgrading internal systems rather than building new.

Residents also viewed the city's new $18 million water tower nearby, which will significantly increase storage, water pressure, and emergency response capacity once completed later this month.

As studies continue, officials are comparing the long-term costs of renovating versus relocating the plant. Residents voiced concerns about water rates and fairness in how costs are shared across the broader region.
