The Michigan State Housing Development Authority recorded its largest investment year on record in Fiscal Year 2025, committing $2.61 billion to housing programs that supported nearly 45,000 residents statewide. The funding helped finance, preserve, or create more than 12,400 housing units - exceeding annual targets - and marked the fourth consecutive year of increased housing investment by the agency.
MSHDA expanded access to homeownership by helping more than 5,200 households purchase homes through over $775 million in mortgage financing and down payment assistance. New initiatives, including a housing accelerator fund, employer-assisted housing pilot, and temporary mortgage rate relief program, alongside updated state purchase price limits, allowed the agency to reach buyers in 80 of Michigan's 83 counties, including rural communities.
The agency also strengthened housing stability efforts, assisting more than 32,500 households through rental assistance and homelessness prevention programs. A successful shelter diversion pilot reduced shelter entries and was expanded statewide, while administrative improvements streamlined development processes as MSHDA prepares to continue addressing Michigan's ongoing housing shortage.
