Four students from Huron County's Laker and Ubly FFA chapters have been named finalists for Michigan's prestigious State Star awards, recognizing excellence in agricultural entrepreneurship and career development.
The finalists - selected from State FFA Degree candidates based on their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs - include Luke Volmering and Aiden Kolar (State Star Farmer category), Grant Guza (Agricultural Placement), and two business category finalists: Rayne Guza and Klaire Reibling.
Following December site visits where judges evaluated their projects, interviewed school administrators, and verified FFA involvement, three candidates advanced to the top tier. On January 14th, Grant Guza, Rayne Guza, Klaire Reibling, and Luke Volmering will face formal panel interviews at Michigan Farm Bureau headquarters in Lansing.
Grant Guza works at his family's Ubly operation, Guza Farms LLC, where he has developed diverse agricultural skills. He advises fellow members to maintain detailed records for easier award applications.
Rayne Guza operates "Rayne's Riding Lessons" from Cottonwood Stables in Bad Axe, teaching trail riding, safety, showmanship, and competitive riding. She encourages students to pursue profitable projects aligned with personal interests.
Klaire Reibling runs Reibling Grain and Show Feed as a certified Umbarger Feed dealer, serving clients across Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, and statewide. Her business includes client consultation, custom ration recommendations, and order management.
Luke Volmering manages an 82-acre farm with 57 beef cattle in a cow-calf operation, selling mature calves. He promotes the competition as an opportunity to showcase work and track financial performance.
Winners will be announced March 6th during the Stars Over Michigan ceremony at the State FFA Convention at Michigan State University, where finalists will appear onstage with family, school officials, and FFA advisors.
