A 17 year old boy has surrendered to authorities in connection with the fatal shooting of a pregnant Saginaw woman.
Police say the teen arrived at the Saginaw Police Department on Federal Avenue Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by a parent. He was taken into custody without incident and transferred to the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center.
Detective Sgt. Oscar Lopez called the arrest "a major step forward" in the ongoing investigation, noting that detectives continue to gather and review evidence. The suspect's identity is being withheld due to his age.
The case centers on the December 31st shooting that claimed the life of 19 year old Kendall Berrington, who was shot inside a convenience store on Court Street. Berrington, who was due to give birth on January 14th, died at the scene. A friend who was with her was also injured but survived.
Police ask anyone with information to contact the Saginaw Police Department at 989-759-1488 or share tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245.
