Huron County District Court - A Huron County defendant's criminal case will move forward to circuit court after he waived his right to a preliminary examination during a hearing Thursday.
Steven Jason Jones appeared in Huron County District Court on March 12, 2026, where a preliminary exam had been scheduled. The hearing is typically used to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for a case to proceed to a higher court.
During the proceeding, prosecutors for the People of the State of Michigan, represented by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alexander Pahany, extended a plea offer to Jones. After consulting with his attorney, Elisabeth Weisenbach, Jones declined the offer.
Jones then chose to waive his preliminary examination. Judge Ferris approved the request after determining that the waiver was made knowingly, voluntarily, and with a clear understanding of the rights being given up. Prosecutors did not object to the decision.
With the preliminary exam waived, the case has been bound over to Huron County Circuit Court, where it will continue through the next stage of the criminal process.
