The possibility of seeking a millage increase for senior services was reviewed during the last Huron County Council on Aging meeting.
Huron County currently levies .2500 of a mill for senior services that generates about $725,000. The last time that millage was increased was back in 2012 when it went from .2 of a mill to .2500 of a mill.
The council reviewed the possibility of increasing the senior millage. One option could be to ask voters to approve .3 of a mill, which would generate about $870,000 the first year, or asking for .3250 of a mill that would generate approximately $943,000.
The possibility of asking for .3500 of a mill would generate about $1,015,000 was suggested.
The possibility of a millage increase for seniors was only discussed with nothing decided.
During discussion, it was noted there could be several millages on the ballot, which could jeopardize the millage for senior services passing.
It was pointed out county commissioners are still considering either a Headlee Override for the road patrol or asking for a public safety millage.
