Lapeer County Hires New Veteran Affairs Officer

The Lapeer County Board of Commissioners approved hiring Pete Kirley, as the veterans services director for that vacant position.

During discussion of hiring Kirley, it was noted he has several qualifications, certificates and plus additional certifications in handling veterans appeals as well as other experience.

It was also noted that he as county's previous veteran service officers have not had as high qualifications as Kirley has.

Besides approving his hire, the board approved starting Kirley at a pay grade 16, because of his qualifications and experience.

The board also said he would be evaluated after one year of work by the personnel committee for a possible salary adjustment depending on the budget.
