The expanded and greatly updated Lapeer County Animal Control facility at 2396 West Genesee St., Lapeer, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Commissioners approved using $2.2 million of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds it received to help offset the financial impact of COVID to upgrade the animal shelter.

Some of the improvements that were done allows dogs to freely go outside, has a separate area for felines, a new adoption room, and the changes that were made makes it easier to clean.
