A change in leadership in Tuscola County's Elmwood Township has brought an end to a planned recall election for the township treasurer.

According to Tuscola County Clerk Jodi Fetting, Treasurer Cheryl Kilbourn resigned during a special township board meeting Thursday night. Board members accepted her resignation and appointed Mary Cunningham to serve the remainder of the term.

Kilbourn had been scheduled to face voters in a recall election November third.

Although her resignation ends that contest, voters will still see the treasurer's race on their ballots because election materials have already been printed and distributed.

Fetting says any votes cast in that contest will not be certified by the Board of Canvassers.

The recall election involving Township Supervisor Christopher Graff is a separate contest.
