The Colfax Township Board of Trustees reviewed some money issues during their last meeting.
The board approved submitting a request for disbursement of the second half of the Century Oaks Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) grant.
The state offers a financial incentive for municipalities who allow green energy development without issue.
The township is requesting that financial incentive in exchange for allowing the development of a battery storage facility.
The Century Oaks Energy Center is a battery facility that is located on 72 acres in the township.
A battery storage facility acts as a massive reserve to store electricity for the grid, capturing electricity when demand is low and discharging it back into the grid when demand peaks.
The battery-storage facility in the township was developed by NextEra Energy Resources.
During the meeting, it was also noted the preliminary scores were received for the township's park improvement grant.
The board approved contacting the Spicer Group about them providing supplemental information if it is needed to secure the grant.
In other financial matters, Mark Brining, who is with the auditing firm of Brining and Brining explained the audit results show the township's general fund has a healthy balance.
Regarding finances, the board approved purchasing a GMC Sierra truck for $46,281, and to trade in the old cemetery truck for $750 or best offer.
