Firefighters and emergency responders who help protect the Saginaw community are receiving recognition for their service over the past year.
The city held its annual awards ceremony, honoring individuals and organizations for exceptional dedication, lifesaving efforts, and professional achievements.
Among those recognized was Madison Gonzales, named Saginaw's Firefighter of the Year.
Gonzales expressed pride in serving his hometown, saying he loves the job and never expected to receive the honor.
The ceremony also celebrated department promotions, recognized acts of merit, and gave attendees a look at the city's newest fire truck.
Fire prevention was another focus, with this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign highlighting lithium-ion battery safety.
Under the theme "Safe Charging Is a Superpower," the campaign encourages residents to use approved charging equipment and follow manufacturer instructions to reduce fire risks.
