Lapeer's Rowden Park is expected to get a major upgrade done next year.
The Lapeer Kiwanis Club has been planing for about eight years to do upgrades to the park by developing an all-inclusive playground.
Once built the barrier-free playground equipment will cost about $1.3 million.
Of that cost, the the Kiwanis Club has been able to received about $850,000 in funding towards the project, but more funding is needed to complete all of the work that is planned.
The club has been working with Rowe Professional Engineering Service.
The hope is to break ground in the summer of 2026 and to have the first phase of the project completed by the fall of next year.
The plan for the park is to have wide access to the various features so those in wheelchairs and other transport devices can access the playground equipment.
The design for the park also includes features for those who are hearing and visual impaired along with those who have sensory disorders.
Additional funding is needed to complete phase two of the upgrades. Donations can be sent to the Kiwanis Club of Lapeer, c/o Legacy Project, PO Box 501 Lapeer, 48446.
