Selection of the Next Huron County Treasurer is Expected Today

Huron County might have a new treasurer today (Dec. 23).

Because Deb McCollum retired as the county's treasurer, her replacement is being sought.

Interviews of candidates to fill that position were conducted on Dec. 16 by the committee, which consists of District Judge Julienne Ferris, Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Rutkowski, and county Clerk Lori Neal.

As part of the interview process, background checks on those who are seeking the job were done.

The committee will meet at 2:30 p.m. today in the probate courtroom. They are expected to make a decision on who will replace McCollum.

The person selected as the next treasurer will have to run in the November 2026 election in order to complete the remainder of McCollum's term.
