Ambulance services across the state are struggling to recruit emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and/or to keep the ones they have.
During the Elkton Village Council meeting, Ambulance Coordinator Cheyenne Rathje reported she is working on setting up class dates to train new EMTs.
According to Rathje she has about six people who have said the are interested in taking the classes to be EMTs.
She went on to explain she is requiring those who said they are interested to write an essay explaining their reasons for wanting to become an EMT.
In 2024, the village paid for EMT classes upfront for some individuals as an incentive to draw more people to become medically trained technicians, which helped at that time fill the roster.
During the meeting, Rathje also reported there were 12 billable runs for the month.
