The Huron County Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026 in room 305 in the County Building, at 250 East Huron Avenue, Bad Axe.
The commission will review a special use permit (SAP) made by Milo Schlabach. He wants to build a new 4,000 square foot building on a vacant 121 acre parcel of land in Section 29 of Grant Township at 4675 Williamson Road, in Gagetown.
The proposal to operate a sawmill in the township on Williamson Road was discussed at a recent Grant Township Board of Trustees meeting.
During that meeting, some residents who were in the audience expressed concerns about the nose such an operation would make, aesthetics, and property values.
The board took no action on the proposed sawmill operation at that meeting.
Schlabach's plan is to use the building to operate a sawmill on the land that is zoned agricultural (AGR).
If approved, the SAP would allow the sawmill business to do sawing, planning, storage, loading, & unloading of lumber.
The meeting is open to the public. Written comments may be mailed to the Huron County Building & Zoning Department, 250 E. Huron Avenue, Room 102, Bad Axe, Michigan 48413 or sent by fax to 989-269-3362 or email to smithj@co.huron.mi.us prior to the hearing.
