The Michigan Senate voted Tuesday to reinstate $645 million in state funding that House Republicans removed last week from projects and departmental initiatives aimed at reducing government spending.
During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, several affected programs testified about the impact of the cuts, including Rx Kids, a Flint-based prenatal and infant support program.
Director Dr. Mona Hanna said the $18 million reduction would halt expansion plans to other Michigan communities and disrupt private matching investments.
The Senate's restoration measure still requires House approval before the funding is officially reinstated.
House Speaker Matt Hall defended the original cuts as necessary to curb waste, while Rx Kids supporters urged lawmakers to secure stable funding to protect services for Michigan families.
