Lapeer officials issued a notice that hazardous objects have been found in two of the city's parks.
The Lapeer City Police Department is in the process of investigating fence spikes that were found in the mulch around playground equipment at Rotary Park on Nepessing Street and in Cramton Park off of Genesee Street.
Between the two playgrounds about two dozen spikes that were found pointing up that were hidden in the mulch or snow.
The DPW and officers used metal detectors to find the spikes that were all placed with the sharp edges pointing up.
The police department cordoned off the playground equipment with yellow tape.
It was noted that all playground equipment be checked over before allowing a child to play on them, and that staff will also be checking the parks as a safety measure.
This is not the first time objects that could cause harm have been found around playground equipment.
There were instances of harmful objects found in 2025 in some of the city's parks.
Because of those incidents, officials plan on stalling additional lighting in the parks as well as cameras.
Anyone who has information about placement of the harmful objects at parks, is asked to contact the Lapeer City Police Department at 810-664-0833.
