Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed an executive order reorganizing 16 additional state boards, councils, and commissions as part of an ongoing effort to streamline Michigan government. The move builds on a 2024 order that restructured 26 entities and aims to reduce duplication, update outdated structures, and improve efficiency.
The changes include consolidating boards with relevant departments, eliminating or modifying obsolete seats, transferring some responsibilities between agencies, and sunsetting certain advisory councils while preserving their core functions. Several boards will see updated membership requirements to better reflect current industries, public safety needs, and federal standards.
Whitmer said the reorganization is designed to protect taxpayer dollars, cut red tape, and ensure state government operates more effectively while continuing to give residents a voice in policymaking.
