Bay City Lawmaker Pushes To Restore Bridge Funding

A Bay County state representative is working to bring back funding removed from a major Bay City infrastructure project.

Republican Rep. Tim Beson announced plans to submit a budget proposal seeking $1.6 million for the Lafayette Bridge replacement.

The money was eliminated last week as part of $645 million in statewide budget reductions approved by a GOP-led House committee.

The cuts could cost Bay City roughly $2 million overall. Beson said he's unsure when he'll formally introduce his request to lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Democratic legislators condemned the budget decisions, calling the reductions excessive and careless toward local needs.
