Bingham Approves Helping Ubly Village Pay Demolition Costs

During this month's Bingham Township meeting, the Ubly Village President Jason Nichol asked the board if they would help with the cost of a project that would make traveling safer in the community.
Nichol attended the township meeting to ask the board of trustees for financial help to have the Masonic Temple building, which is located at M -19 and Main Street, demolished.
The building is a traffic hazard and needs to be removed.
Because of that, the village purchased the building and plans to tear it down.
The cost of buying the building, demolishing it, and disposal of the debris is about $75,000.
The village will cover most of that amount and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will help cover the remaining cost.
Nichol noted the cost to have the debris trucked away is being donated, but the project is still expensive.
Because of that, he asked the township board to help offset some of the costs.
Nichol pointed out the building is a traffic hazard and it would benefit not only village residents, but also township residents to have the building removed.
The board approved pledging $15,000 to the village towards the cost of razing the building.
