Owendale Lagoon Repairs Scheduled to Start October 1st

After nearly four years of planning and hoping, the long-awaited repairs to Owendale's lagoon are about to start.
According to village Clerk Randy Howard, the sewer lagoon repair project is scheduled to begin on Oct. 1.
Village officials have been dealing with infrastructure issues with the lagoon since 2022 because it has been a challenge to secure as many grants and funding as possible to pay for the work and so residents don't have a large bill.
Some of the problems with the lagoon include replacing valves and concrete pump-house structures that are worn out.
The lagoon, which is North of the village, needs to have the work done to comply with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regulations.
It has also been difficult to hire a contractor to do the work because it is not a large project.
Howard also noted the lagoon is scheduled for the autumn discharge in mid-November.
