County Wide Emergency Preparedness Drill Taking Place Wednesday

Local Hospitals in coordination with Fire Departments, EMS agencies, Police, and more will conduct a county-wide emergency preparedness exercise on Wednesday, September 30.
The drill will take place at the Laker Schools soccer field in Pigeon, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and concluding around 8:00 p.m. For safety reasons, residents are asked to avoid the area during the exercise if possible.
The scenario will simulate a hazardous materials incident involving a fictional crop duster spraying chemicals near a soccer team under changing wind conditions. Volunteer participants will act as patients exposed to a simulated hazardous substance. Organizers emphasize that no actual aircraft or hazardous chemicals will be used during the drill.
Hospital services will remain available throughout the exercise. However, patients and visitors arriving at Scheurer Hospital may be directed to specific entrances while staff practice emergency patient routing procedures. Temporary traffic delays or changes near the Emergency Department are possible.
The goal of the training is to strengthen coordination among healthcare providers, EMS, fire departments, law enforcement, emergency management, and other response partners to ensure the community is prepared for large-scale emergencies.
