Biography

Debra Lynn Jurges (DeChane), 59, of Bad Axe passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at McLaren Bay Region. She was born on June 28, 1961, in Bellflower, California to Harold and Kathleen DeChane. A member of the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church, Deb wore many hats in her lifetime. She was a manager, an Occupational Therapist, and she worked as an EMT. The hat she was proudest to wear though was that of Mother. Above all, Family was everything to Deb. Her idea of the perfect day was just to have all her family under one roof. She had a wicked sense of humor and always went out of her way to make sure everyone was included. You didn’t have to be blood to be a part of her family, and once you were in, there was no getting out. She leaves behind a great legacy and so much love.

Biography

Archie Talaski, age 93 of Rapson, passed away Thursday December 17th, at his home with family by his side. Archie was born June 4, 1927 to William Talaski and Cecilia (Andreskii) Talaski in Rapson. After returning from serving the Army, he married Phyllis Goniwicha on September the 17th 1949. He started farming, and became a carpenter for road construction. He was proud of his bridge building ability, and the gold watch he received for retiring with 50 years with the Carpenters Union. He took pride in the potatoes he grew and was well known for. Archie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, and spending time with his great grandchildren. Archie was a member of the American Legion Post 499, and a member of St. Herbert-St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Lorraine Helen Bieri, 91, of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at home under hospice care surrounded by family. Lorraine was born August 18, 1929 in Grindstone City to the late Valentine and Mary (Krinke) Matelski. She grew up in Kinde. She met Robert Junior Bieri whom she married on April 3, 1947 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog; he preceded her in death January 22, 2001. After getting married they made their home on Crescent Beach Road and raised her 13 children and later helped with raising her grandchildren. She would take her grandchildren on nature walks through the family property. She will be forever remembered for the love and care she provided to her family.

Daniel P. Reidel, Jr., age 60, of Sebewaing, passed away at his home peacefully with his wife by his side. Daniel was born in Bay City on August 8, 1960 to Daniel Paul Reidel and Darlene Ann Rowell (McShane). He married Patricia Ann Lacko on December 2, 1983. He enjoyed his grandchildren, watching Nascar and wrestling, and working on small engines. Daniel was a retired truck driver from Matonek trucking in Bay City, worked at Lindale Farms, Roger Elenbaum Farms, the original Stein Road Buhholz Trucking, Michigan Sugar, as well as many other jobs growing up.

He preceded her in death on November 22, 2012. She attended St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Port Hope. Helen was also a member of the Grindstone Sportsman Club. She enjoyed puzzles, word search puzzles and spending time with family, friends, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Judy was born in Sandusky on February 4, 1954, the daughter of the late Casmir and Anna (Kulish) Abraham. Judy and Daniel Baranski were married on November 28, 1981 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Parisville. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and singing. She was instrumental in re-forming the choir at St. Michael’s in the 1980s. She had been employed at the Huron County Medical Care Facility.

Lola and Donald Incarnati shared a rare romance for 73 years that built a strongly bonded family of children Cindy, Philip, and Kristen with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. For years, they grew this family with their love through big Italian homemade meals, deer hunting adventures, boating and fishing trips. Mom by dad’s side frying fish out of large garbage cans full of smelt or perch depending on the season. Mom cooking homemade ravioli, passing the tradition down through generations sharing bits with all of us. There was a phrase that always rolled off all of our tongues when we left one another “We love you whole world.” Mom meant the whole world to all of us. We will miss her smile and the best German coffee cake ever! Lola was loved by so many and cared for by the best messengers God has. Philip Incarnati, her only son, has closely cared for her and dad during all of their years in Caseville. Thank you to all that spent time visiting with her and loving her over her late years.

She enjoyed quilting and taking care of her grandchildren. She had a special affection for her furry friend Dude.

Biography

The world lost a great man as our father John “Big John” Cieslinski, age 73 of Ubly passed away at Bayfield Assisted Living in Bay City on Sunday December 13, 2020. John was born in Yale, MI on February 26, 1947 to the late Anthony and Marcella (Sofka) Cieslinski. On May 8, 1976 John married the love of his life, the late Glennda (Coates) Cieslinski. John spent 378 days away from his beloved wife before he was called home.John and his beloved owned Pine View Farms in Ubly for many years. From sun up to sun down, he was in the field or in the barns. John raised dairy cattle until the dairy buy out came through in 1989. During the years of raising dairy cows, John received numerous awards from MMPA for milk production volumes. John also received top yield awards from Pioneer seed over the years. In 1990, the gears changed to beef cattle. Cash crops were raised on the family farm as well. In 1999, arthritis took it’s toll on John and he rented out the farm and sold the cattle. John served on numerous boards and committees over the years. He was a trustee for Sheridan Township for numerous years. He served on the ambulance board for Central Huron Ambulance Service just to name a couple. John is an active member of St. Columbkille Church. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus where he has earned the status of 4th degree Knight. John and Glennda loved to travel. Their last vacation was a long anticipated Alaskan cruise. They wintered in Lakeland, Florida yearly. They didn’t care where the vacation was as long as they were together.

Howard R. Randall, 105, passed away December 13, 2020 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.   He was born on May 3, 1915 to the late Daniel and Carrie Randall.   Howard married the former Alice Stoddard on January 8, 1938 and she preceded him in death on May 27, 1985.   He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe and a life member of the Bad Axe masons. He worked for Fairmont Foods for 30 years and also delivered furniture for Reimann Snider Furniture Store in Bad Axe.  Howard loved music.  He played the mouth organ and keyboard, entertaining his family on every one of his birthdays.  He also could be found playing his mouth organ almost daily at Courtney Manor.  Howard also loved meeting up with his friends every morning at Spartan Coffee Shop.  On his 105th birthday Huron County Sheriff Hanson deputized Howard.

She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Paul Fischer.

Janice was born March 12, 1945 in Bad Axe to the late Robert Jr. and Frieda (Horton) Hyzer. She graduated from Laker High School in 1963 and then attended St. Mary’s Nursing School in Saginaw, becoming a registered nurse in 1965. Later she finished her schooling at Ferris State University with a bachelor of science in nursing. She married Anthony C. Foster on December 9, 1972 at Hayes United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death April 18, 2005. Her nursing career took her to Sault Ste Marie, ON, Alberta, Canada, London, England and then back to Huron County where she worked at Hubbard Hospital and she retired from Schuerer Hospital as director of nursing in 2007. She loved to travel, with her husband they operated private yachts in Europe. They lived abroad until moving back to Michigan in 1975. She enjoyed quilting, sewing dresses for her girls, and being a volunteer with GSUSA as troop leader. She was a member of Hayes United Methodist Church and their UMW, where she served as president of the district. Her hobbies included cooking, camping, and reading, especially cookbooks.

Dorothy Elizabeth Prich, age 90, of Gagetown, died December 12, 2020 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.  Dorothy was born June 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Alfred and Martha (Gaeth) Schairer of Sebewaing.   She was united in marriage to George Prich, Jr. on July 31, 1948.  Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Linkville. She enjoyed crafting, canning, gardening and her flower gardens.

Biography

IRA D. WRUBEL, age 91 of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at McLaren Port Huron Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1929 to the late Michael and Mary (Mika) Wrubel. Ira and Gladys Booms were united in marriage on October 27, 1951 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2020. Ira served in the US Army from 1951-1953. Ira was a hardworking, innovative, dairy farmer. There was no task he couldn’t perform and everything was fixable. He loved to play cards, especially pinochle. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling with his beautiful bride, Gladys, and working with his hands. He most notably, loved his beautiful wife Gladys. He doted on her and cared for her for 69 years of marriage. In his lifetime, he not only served his country, but provided for his family. He built his family home after their home was destroyed by a fire. He ran his dairy farm while working several jobs to support his family. He was a lifelong member of OLLH Catholic Church, and instilled his strong Christian beliefs into his family. He taught his children to be like him, determined and hard working. He will always be our hero, strongest man we know.

James Owen Bollenbacher, 81, of Bay Port, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 10, 2020, surrounded by his family. James was born in Plymouth, Indiana to Owen and Faye (McVey) Bollenbacher on October 28, 1939. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1957. James married Marilyn Strombeck on January 27, 1962. James was very active throughout his entire life. He was a huge Notre Dame fan, refereed high school sports for 30 years, was a radio broadcaster for WLEW, enjoyed kayaking, skydiving, was an all-star athlete, attended all his kids and grandkids sporting events, wintering in Florida and enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. He loved being around people and his house was always open to everyone, it was the the ”hangout” for all kids. Many will also remember him as the family CEO. Agriculture was his love and he was always there for his customers. He had a vast knowledge in all things ag. His experience in the ag field made him an icon in the farming industry.

Biography

Edward L. Little, age 84 of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born September 21, 1936 in Bad Axe, son of the late Charles E. and Vivian A. (Near) Little, the fifth of eleven children. He married Glenna Boland on December 3, 1960 in Elkton. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2012. Leaving home at 14 to apprentice himself to local farmers in exchange for room and board, Ed graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1955. From there he embarked on what would become a thirty year career with U.S. Steel Corporation, working on iron ore freighters, sailing the Great Lakes. Steadily working his way up from deckhand through the ranks to First Mate, he also earned his pilot’s license in navigation from the U.S. Coast Guard 20 years before retiring in 1984. Ed served on 39 vessels and took his wife along several times. Additionally, each of his children made a trip of at least a week to gain first-hand knowledge of the profession which kept their father away from home 6 – 15 months at a time. Ed was actively involved at Evangel Life Assembly of God, and the Bad Axe chapter of the Huron County Historical Society. Working alongside his Aunt Estella “Fern” Copeland, he was instrumental in gathering several of the cabins which are now included in the log cabin village near the Bad Axe Public Library. A favorite activity was guiding visitors through the cabins, some of which included furniture and items donated by his older relatives.

Jablonski and her special boyfriend, Preston Chapman, Steve and Stephanie (Stein) Reyes. Bob enjoyed every visit with his great grandchildren, Leah, Jaselyn, Jayde and Everleigh. Bob will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Ruth Osentoski along with many nieces and nephews. Bob has rejoined his siblings and his brothers-in law that preceded him in death, Gary Ross Sr. , Clifford Ross and Henry “Hank” Osentoski. They are all playing cards and having a merry time.

Robert Leo Sutton, age 86 of Ubly, passed away on December 10, 2020. He was born in Sault St. Marie on June 4, 1934 to the late Kathryne (MaLone) and David Sutton. Robert “Bob” grew up in Brimley with his four sisters, Molly, Gladys, Helen, Norajean “Nonnie” and his brother, James “Bud”. Bob graduated from Brimley High School in 1952. He then served in the US Army for two years before meeting his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat” Ross. They were married on May 13, 1961 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. They moved to Pontiac and resided there for 48 years. Bob worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad for almost 48 years before retiring in 1996. Bob and his wife, Pat moved to her hometown of Ubly. Bob was a member of the Pontiac Eagles, the Pontiac and Caro Moose Lodge, and the American Legions of Pontiac. His favorite pass times were playing cards, watching sports, mostly the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, and listening to classic country music, Willie’s Roadhouse, on SXM.

Edward Clarence Holdwick, 80, of Harbor Beach passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital from complications after a heart procedure. He was born on February 17, 1940 to Jerome and Stella (Mausolf) Holdwick. He married Marie Cecelia Learman on June 23, 1962 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena where he was a member of the Men’s Club. He also served as the sexton of St. Anthony’s cemetery for over 50 years. He farmed in partnership with his brothers, Paul and Ike, until his retirement. He was proud that his sons, Todd and Chad, followed in his farming footsteps. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and has several trophies displayed in their home. In retirement he focused on his passion for woodworking. He enjoyed crafting jewelry boxes, gun cabinets, cedar chests, picture frames, lighthouses, magazine racks and other small projects. He served as a member of the Harbor Beach Schools Board of Education for 16 years and was privileged to have presented all six of his children with their high school diploma. Anyone who knew Ed, knew of his love for food. He enjoyed cooking as much as he enjoyed eating. Hot dogs cooked over a campfire were a favorite.

Bernice A. Osentoski, 86, of Kinde passed away December 9, 2020 at McLaren Thumb Region in Bad Axe. Bernice was born June 21, 1934 in Kinde to the late John and Anna (Schramski) Lasceski. She married Mark Osentoski on November 11, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kinde. He preceded her in death on August 23, 2015. Bernice was a dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a graduate of Kinde High School. She worked at Hubbard State Bank (which later became Community Bank) and at Ben Franklin. She then quit working to raise her six children. She returned to the workforce and worked at Sohigro and at the Huron County Health Department until she finally retired. She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, going to the casino, and out to eat. She enjoyed spending time with friends and playing cards, which gave her the idea to form the Happy Bunch Card Club. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Sodality.

Sandy was born January 11, 1944 to the late Clayton and Mildred (Hintzke) Cork. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1962. She worked as a realtor for Real Estate One, Power Agency in Caseville. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles and Red Hatters. Her passion was country music and line dancing. Sandy could be found on the dance floor whenever the music was playing. Sandy was a devoted matriarch to her family.

Ronald D. Pettinger, Sr., 82, of Snover passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Northwood Meadows Assisted Living Medical Care Unit, Cass City. He was born April 28, 1938 in Cass City to George and Verna (Lowe) Pettinger. He married Sally McGrath December 7, 1957. On April 19, 1964 he married Virginia Herr. She died December 26, 2000. Ronald was employed by General Cable in Cass City. He was a farmer and raised cattle for many years. Ronald enjoyed Detroit Tigers baseball and watched football on television, including both college and NFL games. One of his favorite past times was taking morning driving tours around the homestead, checking on the property and cows, making certain everyone was safe.
