James S. Musser, 84, of Shelby Twp, formerly of Caseville, died Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Macomb County. Jim was born March 13, 1935 in Detroit to the late Martin and Laura (Hemmila) Musser. He graduated from Busch High School in Center Line in 1953. He was a United States Veteran of the Army. He married Mary Ann Tranchida on July 12, 1958 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Center Line. James retired after 37 years in the IBEW 58.

Mr. Frank C. Plevnia, 91 of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at his residence. Frank was born in Harbor Beach on October 4, 1928 to the late Edward and Romanda (Kucharczyk) Plevnia Sr. Frank was a graduate of a country school. When he was young, he started to farm with his family and then continued on his own until he retired in 1999. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Isidore Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Frank enjoyed playing cards, watching TV and reading the paper.

He immigrated to the US as a young child with his family settling in Michigan. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Warren. He served in the US Army during Vietnam. He married Diane Mayewski on October 24, 1984 in Centerline. He enjoyed cooking, especially smoking meats and barbequing. He shot pool for several local leagues.

ARLEY J. MAUSOLF, age 84 of Harbor Beach, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe. She was born on July 18, 1935 in Harbor Beach to the late Clarence and Adlene (Booms) Wehner. Arley and Donald Mausolf were united in marriage on November 10, 1956 in Harbor Beach. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Donald preceded her in death in 2014. Arley was an employee of the Harbor Beach Community Schools for many years as an Elementary Para Professional, where she enjoyed working with children. Arley was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, walking, gardening, riding her bike and spending time with her family.

Biography

Anthony "Tony" John Torres, 67, of Elkton, died Sunday, December 1, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at his home with his family by his side. Tony was born on January 1, 1952 in the same home he passed away in to Joe and Josephine (DeHoyos) Torres. Tony was a life long resident of Elkton. He graduated from Laker High School in 1971. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Arlene Essenmacher on Valentine's Day in the home they still resided in. He was an active member of the community, coaching Pee Wee football and was an umpire for Little League baseball. Tony owned and operated TNT Landscaping and was employed as a die setter at Tower Automotive. He retired after 40 years due to medical reasons.

Biography

Our beloved and amazing mother, Glennda Cieslinski, age 68, of Ubly, passed away after a 4 year courageous battle with ovarian cancer on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon with family at bedside. Glennda was born in Bad Axe on January 17, 1951, daughter of the late Willet Glenn and Phyllis (Jeffrey) Coates. She married her true love, John Cieslinski on May 8, 1976 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Glennda was an avid quilter. If she was sewing, it was for a quilt. She also, through St. Columbkille Church where she was a member for 43 years, sewed outfits to send to Haiti. Glennda and her husband worked side by side for many years on the family farm. She loved gardening, working on her flowerbeds and spending time with her family and dog (Abby) which she cherished. We would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and the oncology team at Covenant Healthcare especially Dr. Binuh Malhotra and her team.

Robert Edward Prange, Sr., age 72, of Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Robert was born in Bad Axe on October 24, 1947, son of the late Donald and Shirley (Storbeck) Prange. Robert was a meat cutter for various grocery stores, as well as other types of employment. His last job before retiring was as a meat cutter. He enjoyed many types of sports and athletics. He could make you laugh and smile and was a friend to everyone he met.

James H. Rourke, age 65 of Yale, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital after a battle with cancer. James was born December 18, 1953 in Yale to Ralph and Marilyn (Jenkins) Rourke. He obtained his GED from Sandusky High School in 1979. He married Susan Moody, April 16, 1988 in Yale. Sue preceded him in death on October 7, 2004. James worked at Yale Rubber for 47 years retiring in December of 2018. He loved to golf, fish, bowl, wood work and spending time with family and friends.

She was born on October 9, 1964 to the late Albert and Mary (Van Erp) Kubacki. She and Andrew J. Booms, were united in marriage on June 4, 1994 at St. John The Evangelist Church in Ubly. Together they have two daughters and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Dawn graduated from Ubly High School and Saginaw Valley State University. Dawn just marked her 30th anniversary of work with Corteva (formerly known as Dow AgroScience). Everyone who knew Dawn will miss her wonderful, infectious laugh, her words of wisdom, her tasty cooking and baking, her ability to lift others up, her dedication to her family and many friends; her generosity, and her unending joy in her daughters.

Johanna Julia Osantowski-Piot, age 94, of Hazel Park, formerly of Parisville passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at her home under hospice care surrounded by her family. She was born on May 16, 1925 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Theofil and Mary (Mendalski) Spitza. She married Roman Osantowski on April 6, 1942. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1972. She married Frank Piot on September 10, 1977. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2003. Johanna worked at Clements Wire & Cable in Minden City for 14 years, ITT in Coolidge, MI for 91/2 years and retired from American Cable after 8 years. She enjoyed planting flowers and gardening, going to the cottage and cooking.

Eunice Eileen Engelhardt, age 84, of Sebewaing, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. Eunice was born in Hazel Park on February 16, 1935, to Vern and Gladys (Parker) Ostic. She married Harold Engelhardt on November 7, 1975, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Eunice enjoyed flowers, gardening, being with family, traveling, camping, spending time at the cabin, and planning family get togethers.

Dolores A. Hartman, 84, of Caseville/Pigeon, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Home Sweet Home in Pigeon. Dolores was born May 14, 1935 on the family farm in McKinley Twp to the late Pearl (Fogle) and Earl Hartman. She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1953, then Michigan State Normal College in Yspilanti receiving a Bachelor’s Degree then she graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, with a specialization in chemistry. She worked at DOW Chemical as the head librarian in their chemical library in Midland. She opened Caseville Crafts and Gifts in the 1970's selling crafts and used books until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of the Caseville Historical Society and enjoyed local history and promoting Huron County.

Franklin was born June 6, 1936, in Gagetown, to Herman and Erma (Sting) Koch. He married Betty Jane Pobanz on June 20, 1958, at Owendale E.U.B. Franklin enjoyed restoring and showing his antique tractors in parades, the Octagon Barn and many tractor shows, showing his 1934 Ford truck, liked farming, deer hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and crop checking. He was on the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery board for many years.

Amy Laura Reinke, 95 years old, passed away peacefully at Courtney Manor on November 23, 2019. Amy was born on January 12, 1924 to the late Walter and Eveline Iseler. Amy married Walter Reinke on October 2, 1943. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1998. They had celebrated 54 years of married life together. Amy was a member of St. Johns’ Lutheran Church of Port Hope. She was a Rosie the Riveter, a member of the Port Hope Retirees, past President and Secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary of Port Austin, and a member of the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsmen club. Amy enjoyed playing euchre, dancing, crocheting , sewing, quilting, fishing, cooking and gardening. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Raymond A. Buchholz, 91, of Pigeon, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. Ray was born February 4, 1928 in Oliver Twp to the late Ernest and Marie (Wurst) Buchholz Sr. He married Elaine Hornbacher February 2, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing; she preceded him in death April 30, 2015. Ray was raised on his family’s farm and after completing 8th grade went to work full time farming. He transitioned from farming to working with Michigan Sugar, forming Buchholz Trucking in the early 1960's, which is still a family owned business. Over his 5 decades in trucking he continued working with Michigan Sugar and hauling other agricultural commodities to local elevators. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., and sharing a donut with anyone he met.

Fred was born on June 1, 1943 to the late Louis and Kathleen (Caswell) Valasek. On November 23, 1968, he married the love of his life, Jeanette L. LaBerge. Frederick was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He retired from General Motors Buick. Frederick was a member of the Port Austin American Legion, Post 499 and on the Port Austin Water Board. He loved to fish and hunt; was an avid coin collector and made and sold shark tooth necklaces at the Port Austin Farmers Market for many years. Jeanette and Fred enjoyed spending the winters in Florida.

He married Patricia McCauley on June 30, 1956 at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Bad Axe; she preceded him in death August 17, 2006. He retired in 1990 from the American Federation of Labor after 26 years of employment. He was a member of the Elkton VFW.

Eileen (Alberta) Miller, age 86, of Filion, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Huron Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe. Alberta was born in Croswell, MI on October 17, 1933, daughter of the late George and Viola (Frost) Deacons. She married Franklin Robert Miller on August 12, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2017. Eileen enjoyed traveling, dancing, going to the casino, country music and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to be outdoors and going for long walks. In her younger years, she was employed by Hamill Manufacturing until the business closed. Then following in her mother’s footsteps, she worked at the Filion Post Office.
