He was born to the late Charles and Mary (Emming) Hessling. Clarence and Margaret Nitz were united in marriage on October 9, 2954 in Harbor Beach.

Biography

Clarence B. Hessling, age 81 of Livonia, formerly of the Ruth area, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his home under hospice care. He was born on October 25, 1930 in Ruth to the late Charles and Mary (Emming) Hessling. Clarence and Margaret Nitz were united in marriage on October 9, 1954 in Harbor Beach. He worked for Chrysler as a Pipefitter for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

Biography

Stephanie A. Maust, age 51 of Bay Port, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at home with her family at her side. Born in Fort Rucker, Alabama on June 18, 1961, she was the daughter of Wayne E. and Joann M. (Miller) Schember. Following her 1979 graduation from Laker High School, Stephanie graduated from Baker Business College with an Associate's Degree. On July 21, 1984, she was united in marriage to Timothy R. Maust at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. Stephanie's first job was at Executive Business Systems in Flint. She later worked for Bluewater Thumb Youth for Christ and McCormick Motors, and was a paraprofessional for 13½ years for OwenGage Public Schools. Stephanie loved spending time with her family and attending all sporting events with her children or watching them on television. She enjoyed camping, shopping, and sightseeing throughout the Thumb. She was a member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church. She was blessed by her church family and being a part of her church, and was able to attend services this past week.

Helen J. Williamson, age 78, of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Helen was a graduate of Marysville High School and attended community college. She was a homemaker, small business owner and a participant in many community organizations including the Dance Club, Jaycees, Lionesses, Hospital Auxiliary and Legion Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed cruising on the Great Lakes with Don and was a member of the Great Lakes Cruising Club and the Port Huron Power Squadron. She was a reading tutor to many children. Helen enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, baking, crafting and especially sewing.

Mr. Elmer “Jim” James Makowski, 73 of Ruth, Sigel Township, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Huron Medical Center. Jim was born December 29, 1938 in Parisville to the late Edward and Blanche (Trepkowski) Makowski. He married Suzanne Alexander on June 26, 1965 at St. Joseph’s in Rapson. He was a resident of Parisville all of this life. He graduated from Ubly High School. Jim worked for Active Industry “Tower” Industry as a fork lift driver before retiring April 29, 2005. He enjoyed assisting neighbors with their farming, gardening, cards, and sucker fishing. His life ended doing what he loved, working outside with his hands.

Biography

Arnel M. Bennett, age 50, of Caseville died early Monday morning, September 3, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw of complications after the removal of a brain mass. She was born June 25, 1962, in Cheyenne, WY to Arnold and Nellie (Gage) Russell and came to Elkton as a baby. Arnel was a 1980 graduate of Laker High School. She furthered her education at the HISD cosmetology program in Bad Axe and became a beautician, operating a business in her home. She had also worked as a waitress, first at the Franklin Inn, Bad Axe and then at her mother’s restaurant, Country House in Caseville. Arnel attended the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton, as well as the River's Edge Church in Caseville. As she drew closer and closer to her Lord she was known to read her Bible until the pages were tattered, and filled her Bible with scraps of paper filled with notes from meaningful studies and sermons. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, playing games, doing puzzles, playing pool and bowling. Arnel was a good cook and baker, and loved to watch sunsets in Caseville.

Biography

Norman W. Lorentz, age 92, of Sebewaing, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 3, 2012. Norman was born September 22, 1919 in Sebewaing to the late Louis and Katherine (Wisenbaugh) Lorentz. He entered the US Army on February 14, 1942 and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1945. During his time in the military he was the Commander of the Coxswain Landing Craft 838 Combat Zone, was in the New Guinea Campaign, Southern Philippine Campaign, received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, 2 Bronze Campaign Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He married Ila Henne on January 26, 1946 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sebewaing. Norman was a lifetime member of the Huron County Sheriff’s Posse Mounted Patrol, was a commercial fisherman in Bay Port, worked as a truck driver aiding in the building of the Mackinaw Bridge, and was a self employed general contractor. He was an avid horseman from his youth until his death. Norman was also a lifetime member of the Indian Trails Riding Club.

Mrs. Kathryn I. Nye, 97 of Sandusky and formerly of Minden City, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Stonegate Village Assisted Living in Sandusky. Kathryn was born on August 6, 1915 in Palms, MI to the late Fred and Julia (Horan) Varty. She married Lawrence C. Nye on May 10, 1941 at the Church of Precious Blood in Detroit. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1994. Kathryn was a 1931 graduate of Deckerville High School. She lived in the Detroit/Warren area from 1968 to 1990 when she retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Kathryn and her husband moved to Minden City in 1990 and she returned as a parishioner to her home parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. She enjoyed playing cards, needlework, word finds and visiting with family and friends.

She was born on September 15, 1922 in Paris Township, to the late Xavier & Anastasia (Lemanski) Oberski. Marion and Norman Susalla were united in marriage on November 18, 1939 in Ruth. Marion was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. She was a waitress, and enjoyed reading, flea markets, tractor shows, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Elizabeth Alice Krohn age 92, of Oliver Twp. died Thursday afternoon, August 30, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born March 30, 1920 in Oliver Twp. on a farm just north of Elkton, the home of her parents, the late Thomas and Lucy (Bursick) Barry. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1938. On August 31, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arnold R. Krohn at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Sebewaing. She and Arnie lived on a farm west of Elkton all their married life. During WW II, she was employed at the Box Factory, Elkton, helping the war effort. During the fifties, managed Bud’s Bar in Elkton. Alice trained to become a nurse’s aide and was employed at Scheurer until 1965, retiring for health reasons. Alice was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Altar Society in Pigeon. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Cooking is where she excelled making treats for her family and friends, whom she loved having around her.

Grace Onalee Freeman, age 84 of Bay Port, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. Born in Elkton on March 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Susann (Cobb) Rounds, and attended and graduated from Big Turner School. On February 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to Vincent Freeman, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2004. Grace worked at Scenic Nursing Home and Scheurer Hospital as a nurse's aide, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Pigeon V.F.W. Post 2236 Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville, and was a former member of the St. Roch Church council. In her earlier years, Grace enjoyed bowling. She especially enjoyed garage sales and going to the beach with her family, and cherished all the time she spent with her family. More recently, she enjoyed reading, puzzles, and embroidery until her Parkinson's limited her. She was generous sharing her time and gifts with friends, family, and the people of Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care.

Josephine Roseltha Yenglin, age 98, of Gagetown, formerly of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Josephine was born September 9, 1913 in Lakeview, South Dakota to the late Eugene and Belle (Jordan) Brill. She was united in marriage to Glen Yenglin December 24, 1938. He preceded her in death. Josephine was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, a full time house wife, loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was owner of Glen’s café in Bad Axe in the mid 1960’s, loyal employee of Ben Franklin in Pigeon from mid 1960’s until her retirement in the mid 1980’s.

She was born to the Late Achilles and Marie (Dobbelaere) Van Hautte. She was united in marriage to Otto Brade on February 14, 1931 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death August 5, 1984

Biography

Born in Deinze, Belgium. She came to the United States at six months of age and grew up in Saginaw. She was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She worked for a bakery in Saginaw packing cookies After Otto and Blance moved to Kinde, she worked with Otto in the family business they started in the late 1930's. After Otto's death she continued working as office maager until 2008. She was a past president of the Kinde High School PTA, a member of the Kinde Child Study Club, member of a Huron County area schools sutdy and a member of the Kinde Corners Extension Club. Blanche was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran World Relief, and the Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary. As a devout Christian she served as a member and an officer of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and was Zone President of LWML for several terms and supported various local international Bible programs until her death. She loved and grew flowers, loved to read, and loved a challenging gmae of Scrabble. Blessed with a sharp mind she kept track of everyone in her family, remembering birthdays and other landmarks.

Born in Bad Axe. He graduated from Elkton High School and was a member of Victory in Christ Community Church in Bad Axe. He enjoyed reading and football. Also, visiting with his family and friends and with Wanda Skinner and Jimmy Byrne who he considered his children as well. Wayne was a machine repair machinist and drove truck while employed at Active Industries. He was also a farmer.

Elaine and Howard 'James' Whitaker were married on January 16, 1942. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2004. Elaine was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Chruch in Kinde. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and cross stitch.

Biography

Married Edward Krause on May 18, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2008. Marjorie was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she was employed at Federal's Department Store. After the marriage, Edward and Marjorie moved to Roseville, MI to raise their children. They helped build Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School. Both worked with the Youth Groups and Evangelist Visitors and were members of the Ladies League and Men's Club. The retired to Gladwin, Michigan where they helped build two new churches and were very active in the church and community. In 2001 they moved to Port Austin, having loved fishing and camping through the years there. They became members of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. Marjorie's entire life was dedicated to faimly, church, and community. She touched the lives of so many people and was a blessing to all her friends and family. She will be missed but never forgotten.
