She is survived by her two children, Lynn and Dave Dearing of Cass City and Jerry and Phoebe Bernhardt of Caro; grandchildren: Kelly and Scott Kelley, Tammy and Gary Lowe, Joey Dearing, Kristi and John Atkinson, and Jeremy and Samantha Bernhardt; ten great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Bolzman. In addition to her husband, Joe, preceding her in death were sisters Luella Irrer and Doris Gruehn, and brothers Raymond and Lloyd Bolzman.
Ruth A. Bernhardt, age 94, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Born in Bay Port on January 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Ernst and Elsie (Thede) Bolzman, and attended the Kilmanagh Lutheran School. On June 21, 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Bernhardt at the family home. They were married more than 68 years when Joe passed away on June 9, 2010. Before marriage, Ruth worked at the Pigeon Hotel. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and canning. She enjoyed playing euchre and Bingo, and watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her five-generation family. Ruth was an active, faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, and was also a member of the Ladies Aid. She dearly loved her church family.

Dorothy LaFave, 92, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2015 at Huron County Medical Care Facility. Dorothy was born on June 24, 1923 to the late Marvin and Isabel (Bartrum) Wendland in Sigel Township. On July 5, 1941, she married Frank LaFave. He preceded her in death in November 2001. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a social butterfly and loved to travel, especially to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Idaho, and the west coast. Dorothy loved playing bingo, playing bridge, visiting casinos and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Joseph Sweeney, 79, of Bad Axe (formerly of Elkton) passed away Monday, August 3, 2015 with his family by his side. Joseph was born August 16, 1935 to the late Malcolm and Mary (McIntosh) Sweeney. He was united in marriage to Hilda Smith on November 7, 1959. Joe farmed all his life, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Owendale Lions Club, Popple Trail Blazers, Knights of Columbus and Corn Growers Association.

He was born on September 22, 1983 in Bad Axe, MI, to Robert and Veronica (Gusa) Dallas. Robert and Chelsey Pionk were united in marriage on April 27, 2013 at Smiths Corners. Robert worked on the family farm all of his life. He enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, fishing and taking his son Ethan for Four-wheeler rides.

NORMAN R. SUSALLA, age 96 of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Courtney Manor Nursing Center of Bad Axe. He was born on June 25, 1919 in Parisville to the late Robert and Anna (Moy) Susalla. Norman and Marion Oberski were united in marriage on November 18, 1939 in Ruth, she preceded him in death on September 1, 2012. Norman was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc. retiring in 1983 with over 40 years of service. Norman served in the US Army during World War II. Norman was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, and the Harbor Beach VFW Post. He enjoyed engines and antique shows, and attending flea markets.

Mr. Dale “Dooley” Arthur Klaus, 73 of Deckerville, joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 30, 2015. He was born on August 10, 1941 in Bad Axe to the late Raymond and Evelyn (Erdman) Klaus. He married Sue Rich on January 15, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville. Dale was a 1959 graduate of Deckerville High School. He was a salesman for Rupp Seeds for 20 years. He was employed at McEachin Excavating for 38 years as a bulldozer driver before he retired in 2006. Dale was an avid snowmobiler and was a member of the Thumbs Up Snowmobile Club of Sanilac County. He also did small engine repair on snowmobiles. Dale loved gardening, trips to the casinos and playing cards with his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, especially the snow and enjoyed his time with family and friends at the Dooley Dome in Higgins Lake.

Vivian L. McCarty, age 89, of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on October 21, 1925 in Cass City, MI, daughter of the late Ora and Ida (Dunlap) Luther. She married Harold Joseph McCarty on July 29, 1949 in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1975. Vivian was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxilary and a member of the Huron Medical Center Auxilary. She enjoyed making finger puppets for the children at Huron Medical Center, golfing, crocheting, ceramics, crafts, and being a member of the “Sweet Adelines”.

Mrs. Beverly Jane Toth, age 78, of Minden City passed away Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at her son’s residence in Minden City under Hospice care. She was born April 5, 1937 in Highland Park, Mi. to the late Homer and Evelyn (Rosnowski) Murdock. She married Donald Toth on October 12, 1957 at Divinity Lutheran Church of Detroit. He preceded her in death December 26, 2012. She was a graduate of Detroit Area Schools. She worked at Jack Gell Warehouse for many years. They lived in Allen Park until 1964. She and her husband then moved to Webberville and farmed from 1964-1984. They then moved to Minden City and farmed until 1997. She and her husband retired to Grand Island, Florida from 1997-2012. She enjoyed quilting, needlework and visiting with family and friends.

Vera Alda Sosnoski, 97 of Bad Axe, died Thursday, July 23, 2015. Vera was born on July 10, 1918 in South Dakota, the daughter of Edmond B. Gray and Maggie M. Frothinger Gray. Vera and Neil L. McIntyre were married on July 14, 1934 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1965. She married Edwin Sosnoski on August 19, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dwight. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1998.

She married Leo Talaski on September 21, 1946 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Leo passed away May 31, 1994.Lois enjoyed bingo, spending time with her children and the Detroit Tigers. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. When she was younger she quilted for her family. During World War II, Lois was one of the “Rosie the Riveter” women. She also worked at Deckerville Dye Form for 22 years.

Ashley was born May 18th 1981 and graduated from Laker High School in 1999. She loved working in healthcare as a nurses aide, and she was manager at Le Village Market in Elkton from 2008-2014.

Edward “Ed” Russell Monzo, 41 of Minden City, passed away early Sunday morning, July 26, 2015 in Ubly due to an automobile accident. Ed was born on December 2, 1973 in Port Huron to Elwood Monzo and Betty Jo Denney. He married Jennifer Gamer on August 22, 1998 in Sandusky. Ed was a good friend to many. His passions in life were playing on area pool and dart leagues and Demolition derbies. He always ran his demo cars fast and on full throttle. He loved pizza and would gladly have eaten it every day. Donald K. MacMillan, age 86, of Bad Axe, MI, passed away at his home Saturday July 25, 2015 with his family by his side. Donald was born in Bad Axe on October 27, 1928, son of the late Angus and Emma (Kirsh) MacMillan. He married Dolores LaPratt on November 10, 1951. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2003. Donald was a member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and jigsaw puzzles. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Rita Rose Walsh, 93 of Ubly passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a long illness. Rita was born on April 25, 1922 in Parisville to the late Alex and Sabina (Jezak) Susalla. She attended St. Mary Catholic School in Parisville. She married Leo Walsh on September 2, 1939 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. After nearly 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on July 14, 1998. Rita farmed alongside her husband on their dairy farm in Austin Township of Sanilac County. She was a dedicated homemaker and was accomplished in baking, sewing, quilting and needlepoint. She was a longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic church where she participated in the Altar Society and volunteered for many years as sacristan of the parish.

Gene was born on December 19, 1942 in Lewisville, MI., son of the late Edward and Elinor (Elliott) Iseler. He married Sandy Ritter on June 11, 1966 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. He worked at Pontiac Motors and was a former employee of Tower Automotive, formerly Active Industries as a machine repair machinist. He was also a lifetime farmer. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Detroit Lions and Tigers, working jigsaw puzzles, spending time outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Lela E. Reibling, age 95, of Chandler Twp died peaceful Wednesday afternoon, July 22, with her family by her side while under hospice care. She was born April 9, 1920 at the home of her parents, the late Charles and Minnie (Bleam) Heckroth in Chandler Twp. Lela grew up in Chandler Twp. and went to Chandler #1 on Limerick Road through the 8th grade and was a 1938 graduate of Elkton High School where she played in the Pep Band. On December 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Calvin Reibling at the home of her parents at Gotts Corner and made their home on a farm in Chandler Twp. Cal preceded her in death April 3, 2011. Lela loved the country and enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables. She most enjoyed mowing their big yard and was still doing it by herself after age of 90. She was a wonderful artist, painting china, and giving it away to her friends and family. She was also an excellent baker, making cookies and tarts for the grandchildren and others. She was a lifelong member of the Elkton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 20 years.

Johnnie Marie Thorp, age 80, of Cass City, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Northwood Meadows Assisted Living with her children by her side. Marie was born March 17, 1935, in Farris, Oklahoma to Jesse and Martha (Smyers) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Robert Curtis Harbuck on December 4, 1952, in DeQueen, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1960. She married Robert Elmer Thorp on July 22, 1961, in Roswell, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2004. Marie loved spending time with her family and she loved her pet companion, Princess. In Marie’s younger years, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing guitar, puzzles, refinishing and refurbishing furniture.

Sharon Mae (Czewski) Foskett, 71 of Hazel Park and formerly of Ubly, passed away, Monday, July 20, 2015 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born on August 9, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert and Mildred (Raines) Foskett. Sharon was a 1961 graduate of Hazel Park High School. She enjoyed trucking throughout the country. She was a resident of American House in Hazel Park for ten years and enjoyed the many outings they took resident on. Sharon owned and operated Sharon’s Upholstery, working on various items, including antique cars. Sharon’s favorite saying was “when to came”. She enjoyed working on many crafts, including crocheting, painting, drawing and especially stained glass.

Mr. Irvine J. Kuntze, 73 of Bad Axe, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on September 13, 1941 in Bad Axe to the late Earl Frederick and Genevieve (Mausolf) Kuntze. He married Mary Ann Streussnig on March 3, 1962 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Irvine resided in Huron County all his life. He was a 1959 graduate of Bad Axe High School. He worked as a machinist for several years before becoming a truck driver. Irvine drove for several companies including Vollmer Redi Mix, McCrea Farms and Agri Sales. He finished his trucking career with ADM, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Rapson Moose Lodge. Irvine enjoyed lawn work, auctions, wine making, bird watching and puzzles. He cherished time spent visiting with family and friends.

Denis J. Judge age 79 of Caseville passed away Saturday afternoon, July 18th, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. He was born July 3, 1936 in Detroit at the home of his parents, the late John and Elizabeth (Kiernan) Judge. Denis graduated from Salesian Catholic High School, Detroit in 1954 and served in the Army National Guard, 8 Mile Armory for 9 years. On October 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Clara King at Holy Name Catholic Church, Detroit. Denis worked as a mechanic at several car dealerships in the Detroit area before taking a position with the City of Birmingham DPW, retiring in 1994 with 20 years of service. At that time they moved to Caseville, where they had vacationed many years prior. While here he operated a small landscape business on a part time basis and was sexton of the Caseville Twp. Cemetery for 10 years. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and served as treasurer of Caseville Eagles for many years.
