Also surviving are two brothers: Raymond (Kathy) Young of Sterling Heights, and Nelson (Gail) Young of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by his half- sister, Anna Marie Marsh in 1988.
Jay Arthur Young, 70, died unexpectedly in his home in Capac, Michigan on September 2, 2014. He was born February 11, 1944 in Detroit , the son of the Harold and Hadie (Brade) Young. He was a 1962 graduate for North Huron High School and, after high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Germany. After he was discharged from the Army he married his high school sweetheart, Bernadette (Gorkowski) Young on June 25, 1966. She preceded him in death on September 19th, 2003. In 1968 Jay and Bernadette bought a home in Washington Township, Michigan and it was there that they raised 8 children. He worked for Ford Motor Company in their Sterling Heights plant for over 30 years. In 1995, after all the children left home, they bought a home in Capac, Michigan where they planned to live out their retirement. He was an Active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Capac, Michigan. In the past years, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers and loved spending time with his family and friends.

John H. “Jack” Kiehl, Jr. of Caro, age 73, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Covenant Health Care – Cooper in Saginaw. He was born November 10, 1940 in Huron County, the son of late John and Alma (Kirsch) Kiehl. Jack was united in marriage with the former Betty Jean Nelson-Marshall on October 25, 1975 in Caro, and she survives him. Jack spent his working life in agriculture related fields which included cutting wood and selling it. In addition to cutting wood, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting at the gun club. Jack was an avid TV watcher, and specifically enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Westerns, especially those starring Gene Autry.

She was born on the family farm in Forestville, on January 11, 1916 to the late Paul and Ida (Wendt) Engel. Eleanor and Harry Teeple Sr. were united in marriage in 1941. He preceded her in death during World War II. She was a former employee of Midwest Rubber in Deckerville. Eleanor was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking, playing bingo and going to garage sales.

She was born on September 7, 1937, daughter of the late Alexander Milford and Ethel Eliza (Hall) Stirrett. Floy graduated from Bad Axe Public Schools in 1955. She married Eugene Alent on July 27, 1963 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parisville. She lived in Ann Arbor, South Lyon, Brighton area for 40 years and then moved to Bad Axe in 2001. Floy worked for S & H Green Stamp, Michigan Seamless Tube, and later Quanex for 30 years before retiring around 1999. All this time while working she also was a housewife and mother. Floy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Hubert parish, Bad Axe, enjoyed walking, exercising, swimming, going to plays and movies, watching boys play hockey, football, and baseball. Floy was a good baker especially her cookies and pies. A favorite pass time was playing cards with friends and family.

She was a fun loving woman who enjoyed laughing with friends and family. Teresa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose heart could warm the coldest days. Now, she is off to a new home and will be greatly missed.

Richard was a 1953 graduate of Elkton High School. He was a self employed carpenter in Huron County for all his life, before retiring in 1997. Richard enjoyed watching pro football, playing cards and reading. He liked to travel with his loving wife, Mary, especially checking out local crops and their progress. James H. “Jim” Lewis, age 87, of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the McCarthy House/Hope Health Hospice on Sandwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was born on May 10. 1927 in Bad Axe, son of the late George and Alta Mae (Jackson) Lewis. Jim was a volunteer at Huron County Medical Care Facility for many years. He love automobiles (Fords!), hunting, fishing, traveling, concerts, and antique car shows. This summer and last fall he attended the Barnstable Senior Center and loved the daily exercise, people, and activities. He loved to see children laughing and playing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Jim started working as a mechanic in 8th grade at Flannery’s until he was drafted into the Navy in 1946 and also upon his return. He worked for Talaski/Ordus Ford from 1950-1967 as head mechanic and manager. He worked for the Huron County Road Commission (as did his father) from 1967-1997, and was proud of his working until the age of 70. Thank-yous go out to the many people who contributed to Dad’s support network: neighbors, friends, and family that Dad enjoyed in Bad Axe, MI. Also the staff at McDonald’s Food & Family Center staff: and the McCarthy House staff who made Dad happy and comfortable while on Cape Cod.

Benjamin R. Rorabacher, age 33 of Saginaw Township, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1980 in Livonia, MI. He married Tara Smith on September 18, 2010 in Midland, MI. Ben was a member of the Churchill High School Class of 1999. He attended Schoolcraft College where he received an Associates degree in Culinary Arts. He enjoyed cooking and was the executive chef at the Saginaw Club. He was also a member of the American Culinary Federation. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. Spending time with his family and friends was very important to Ben, especially being with his loving daughter, Adalyn.

Gary D. Chagnon, age 69, died at home, in Harbor Beach, MI. Although he fought hard against his battle with esophageal cancer, he succumbed to its complications on August 19, 2014. Born February 10th, 1944, in Port Austin, MI, to Mabel and John Chagnon. Although the cancer caused serious health complications and difficulties, Gary bravely accepted the challenge to live the last few years of his life to its fullest. And he did! He thoroughly enjoyed the company of friends and bicycle riding.

Amy was preceded in death by: her grandparents Robert & Ruth McVey and Kenneth & Beulah McDonnell.
Amy McDonnell, 52, of Kinde passed away on August 19, 2014 after a short illness at the University of Michigan Hospital. Amy was born on August 18, 1962 in Washington D.C. to Terrence and Noreen (McVey) McDonnell. Amy spent her early years in Maryland and Indiana before moving to Bad Axe in the 4th grade. She was a 1980 graduate from Bad Axe High School and later graduated from Michigan State University in 1984. Amy was a sales representative for Gordon Foods, Michigan Directory and Cost Plus World Markets. She was an avid reader and tireless walker. Amy enjoyed cooking, traveling to Mexico and was an avid Detroit Tiger fan.

Germaine “Geri” Louise Tonti, 74, of Sand Point, formerly of Cass City, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw. Geri was born December 31, 1939 in Hancock, Michigan to the late Eli Albert and Elizabeth Louise (Cocking) Mattson. She grew up in Dollar Bay and graduated from high school there in 1958. She married Don G. Tonti on September 23, 1961 in Lincoln Park. Together they lived in Cass City for 30 years before moving to Sand Point in 2002. A 1961 graduate of Highland Park School of Nursing, Geri had a long career as a registered nurse. She worked in Labor and Delivery at Oakwood Hospital, Ayer Massachusetts Community Hospital and Garden City Osteopathic Hospital. She spent 5 years working for Tuscola County Alternative Program for Pregnant Teens (TAPPS) and 15 years as the school nurse for Cass City Public Schools. Her passions were family and nursing. After her retirement, she was able to devote more time to her grandchildren and travel. She enjoyed reading, gardening, feeding the humming birds, baking, entertaining and watching sunsets from their home on Saginaw Bay. She was a member of St. Roch-OLPH Catholic Church and the Sand Point Club.

Marie attended Baker College and worked outside her home as a caregiver. She enjoyed scrap booking, sewing, puzzles, fishing and spending time with her children and many nieces and nephews.

AGNES M. ESSENMACHER, age 89 of Harbor Beach, MI, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born on April 28, 1925 in Bad Axe, MI to the late John and Mary (Kucharczyk) Abraham. Agnes and Arthur Essenmacher were united in marriage on November 17, 1945 in Parisville. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2003. Agnes was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the OLLH Altar Society, the Daughters of Isabella, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Agnes was the Schulte School Secretary and then a school cook at the OLLH School for over 20 years. She enjoyed watching high school sports, the Detroit Tigers, playing cards, quilting, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jo Ann Wisenbaugh, age 70 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. She was born in Pinnebog on October 11, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Herron) Ruth. She was raised near Kinde and attended North Huron School. On August 26, 1961 she was united in marriage to Charles G. Wisenbaugh in Kinde, and they had been married almost 53 years. Jo worked at The Dutch Kettle, Hamill Manufacturing, and for many years at Active Feed Company in Pigeon, retiring in 2009. She loved to read, crochet, garden, cook, and do word search games. She was an avid Detroit sports fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. John “Jack” Murray, 90 of Ubly passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at his residence. John was born on March 29, 1924 in Ubly to the late Thomas P. and Josephine P. (Maurer) Murray. He married Patricia McCormick on May 5, 1951 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2006. John attended the Bingham Township #1 School and Ubly High School. He helped convert the old Kelly School into the Farmer’s Hall and was a Board Member for the Farmer’s Hall. He was a fourth generation life long farmer and was extremely proud of his heritage. He lived out his days in the house that was built by his great grandfather in the 1880’s. John was a member of the Hilltoppers Farm Bureau. He drummed with numerous local polka and country western bands for many weddings in the area. He was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. John truly enjoyed reading and keeping up on current events. John was good natured, generous and happy-go-lucky. He kept his quick wit and sense of humor right up to the end. John was always thankful for everything.

Born in Pigeon on September 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James Joy and Amanda (Buchholz) Richmond. Shirley retired after working as a purchasing agent for more than 25 years at Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City. She attended Cross Lutheran Church when living in Pigeon, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church when in Cass City.
