He is survived by his wife, Virginia, to whom he had been married 58 years; sons, Larry (Kris) Leipprandt of Pigeon and Steven (Aileen) Leipprandt of Ada; four grandchildren, Isaac Charles, Ava Carey, Hope, and Nicole; brother, Ted (Peggie) Leipprandt of Pigeon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Phyllis and Clarence Gettel and Charles and Doris Leipprandt; and grandson Nicholas.
Bruce C. Leipprandt, age 86 of Caseville, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw. Born in Bad Axe on March 14, 1930 he was the son of E.T. and Lillian (Sturm) Leipprandt. Following his 1948 Pigeon High School graduation, he attended Michigan State University. After their father’s injury on the farm, teenage brothers Bruce and Charles assumed the family farming operation. Bruce farmed throughout his lifetime and maintained the financial documents until recently, and worked the family farm with Tim and Phil Leipprandt. He was a former president of the Huron County Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Michigan Farm Bureau. He was also past president of the Michigan Centennial Farm Association. Bruce’s passion for the land and family farming was his daily motivation. On March 15, 1958, he was united in marriage with Virginia E. Blakeslee at the Chesaning Methodist Church. Together they enjoyed life and laughter as their home had always been a place for family and friends to gather, including more than 90 international students from throughout the world. Bruce was a lifelong MSU fan and supporter. He participated in the Kellogg Farm Study program beginning in 1969 and traveled throughout the nation and world. He was a member of the Hubbard Winsor Lodge No. 420, the Pigeon Lions Club, the Caseville Eagles F.O.E. 3690, the Caseville Historical Society, and a former member of the Pigeon Rotary Club. He was a lifelong Conservative and a lifelong member of Hayes United Methodist Church.

Mark H. Gruehn, age 57, of Sebewaing, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Mark was born September 2, 1959, in Pigeon, to Leon and Dorothy (Vollmer) Gruehn. He married Terry Elenbaum on November 24, 1979. When not working, he enjoyed deer hunting, boating, riding motorcycle, cutting scrap, burning, collecting and owning John Deer tractors, spending time in Caseville, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed helping others. When wearing a shirt…he’d give you the shirt off his back.

Tracy Rae Champagne, 36, of Bad Axe passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept 10, at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit with her family at her side, after suffering a possible stroke. She was born July 25, 1980 in Harbor Beach, daughter of Gary and Lynn (LeGault) Champagne. Tracy moved to Elkton in her youth with her family and graduated from Laker High School in 1998. After high school she went to college for a short time. She worked at Tom Thumb Market in Elkton before becoming an in home health care worker for the elderly. Currently, she was a sales clerk at Thumb Industries in Bad Axe. Tracy was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. She was an active out of doors person who enjoyed camping mud bogging and spending time with her son.

Brody Lee Truemner, age 21 of Owendale, MI passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at home. He was born in Bad Axe on April 10, 1995, the son of Kevin C. and Sheila F. (Gundlach) Truemner, and was a 2013 graduate from Laker High School, MI. A hockey player for many years, Brody played with the Huron County Men’s Hockey League and the County Line Hockey team in Bay City, MI. While in high school, he played hockey and football. Just recently, Brody played in the Laker High School Alumni game. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends, especially the Canboro Road crew. Brody was a former employee of Weltin Spray Foam and currently worked for King Tiling Company. Brody had an infectious smile that could light a room. He was also known for having the “best snap-chats.”

LORRAINE A. ROBERTS, age 65 of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center of Saginaw. She was born on October 18, 1950 to the late Michael and Elsie (Bartels) Matczak in Detroit. Lori was a member of the OLLH Catholic Church, she was a diabetic for 60 years, and received her American Diabetes 50 year award. She was a thirty year member of AA, and was an AA Sponsor to many people. She was very active at OLLH, being a Lay Minister, served on many committees, and was involved in the Bishops Council. She enjoyed doing crosswords, sending cards to people, building fires, spending time with her grandchildren, and driving her 1972 Convertible MG. Lori’s strong faith and love of our Savior helped her with many of her health issues. She was a strong, determined, caring and loving woman.

Helen Marie Ruby, age 90, of Pigeon passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Helen was born May 23, 1926 in Thurman, Colorado to John and Mary (Kuhns) Hoffman. On February 20, 1944 she was united in marriage to Joseph Ruby in Thurman. They lived in Colorado and Pennsylvania until permanently moving to Pigeon, Michigan in 1950. Helen was a wonderful Mom and homemaker learning early the skills of cooking and baking. By age 15 she worked for an aunt cooking for her farm hands. Joe and Helen lived in Redding, PA early in their marriage, both working at a mental institution. In 1950 when they moved to Pigeon she became active in gardening, quilt making, and serving her church, Michigan Avenue Mennonite, teaching Bible School and Sunday School, and serving as President of the Ladies Sewing and Friendship Circle. Helen worked with her sister, Ethel, at the Dutch Kettle where her specialties were baking pies and making macaroni and potato salad for the Friday night fish fry. Helen enjoyed hundreds of short visits as she delivered Meals on Wheels to shut-ins for many years. After her stroke in 2011 she was forced to give up on many things she enjoyed doing, but visiting with family and going someplace was not one of them. Her known Sunday afternoon call became a normal thing. “You’re coming up aren’t you?” and “Yes everyone else will be here.” Helen never had much to say as family gathered in her small apartment but she enjoyed having them there while listening to all the things happening in their lives.

KENNETH A. SADRO, age 79 of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit from complications following heart surgery. He was born on January 29, 1937 in Ruth to the late Herbert and Gertrude (Partaka) Sadro. He married his sweetheart, Alice Terbrack on June 7, 1958 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Ken (aka) “Boompa” (as he was called by his grand and great grandchildren) was a very loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved to get down on the floor and play with his great grandchildren; his family meant everything to him. At other times, he would just sit back and watch the kids play with a giant smile on his face and a loving look in his eyes. He also liked to spend time back at his pond just taking in God’s beautiful gift of nature. He had an immense affection for dogs, having several beloved dogs as pets over the course of his life; there was no dog that wasn’t his friend/ He enjoyed hobbies of oil painting, deer hunting and going on short getaways “up north” several times a year. As a child, he moved with his parents from Detroit to a farm his Dad purchased near Rapson. He eventually took over the family farm which he and alice operated until his retirement. He was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson (St. Hubert Parish).

Anna was born on January 30, 1919 in Gaylord, MI, daughter of the late George and Ella (Fuhrman) Hacker. Anna had been a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church. She was the past President of the Women’s Department in the church. She was the past Corresponding Secretary of the Thumb Industries when it was first started at the Sheltered Workshop. She was the past president of Thumb Singles Dance Club in Bad Axe; a helpline volunteer and past member of the Business and Professional Club representing the Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 25 yrs. She also worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in the early 1940’s. Anna truly enjoyed her family, friends, playing cards, and dancing.

Janice was born January 1, 1937, in Sebewaing, to the late Arthur and Harriet (Graves) Kuhl. On November 27, 1954, she married Benjamin Rocha at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sebewaing. She worked as a teacher’s aide for 10+ years at Ridge School (Fairhaven Twp., District 1), Sebewaing Elementary School and USA Elementary School. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing piano, riding her bicycle, walking, cooking, baking, reading, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

Paul Edward Stacer, age 50 of Ruth, MI, passed away Wednesday September 7, 2016, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, MI, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Paul was born on June 12, 1966, in Harbor Beach, MI, to Calvin and Judy (Wipping) Stacer. He graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1984. He and Keri Essenmacher were united in marriage on August 1, 1987, at Our Lady of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach. A fifth-generation farmer, Paul farmed the Wipping family farm started by his great-great-grandparents Johan and Henrietta Wuepping, and he worked as a carpenter for Booms Builders for 14 years. Paul enjoyed time spent with Keri, his family and friends, working with their horses, horse racing, especially the Kentucky Derby, listening to 80's hair band music, and helping others. Paul will be remembered for his big smile, his sense of humor and his willingness to put others first.

Marlene Ann Tibbits, 75, of Hume Township, passed away on September 5, 2016 at McLaren Hospital in Port Huron. She was born on December 23, 1940 in Port Austin Township to the late Henry and Leona (Ahearn) Elliott. On December 27, 1958, she married Arthur “Art” Tibbits at the Kinde Presbyterian Church. Marlene was a wonderful, kind, loving mother with a heart of gold. She took everyone in, a mother or “Gram” to everyone. She will be greatly missed by all. She loved to travel and selling her wood crafts at craft shows, bowling in leagues at Biff’s Bowling Bar, enjoyed working in her flower beds. Marlene also enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, racing snowmobiles and racing cars at Owendale Speedway.

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Ruthko, 88, of Bingham Township, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2016 at Meadow Lane under hospice care. She was born on September 29, 1927 in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late Issac and Louise (Baumgarten) Blaylock. Virginia married Fred Ruthko on February 11, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in April 1985. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church/Good Shepherd Parish. Virginia was involved in the American Red Cross as a treasurer, the Thumbs Veterans Organization, volunteering at the church, Christians Mothers, Girl Scouts, 4 – H, and anything else her children signed her up for. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, baking, cooking, traveling and watching all types of sporting events. Virginia will be remembered as the world’s greatest mom and for her delicious poppy seed bread and pierogis.

She married Jim Freiburger on January 20, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1984. Margaret enjoyed playing cards, bowling and Yahtzee.
