He was preceded in death by his daughter, Darcy. Also surviving are his inlaws: Harold (Darlene) Heilig, Jeff (Brenda) Heilig, Harold (Brenda) Heilig, Dawn (Dave) Ventline, Steven Heilig, Nickolas Heilig, and several nieces and nephews.
Dennis D. Jimpkoski, 59 of Hume Township, MI died October 13, 2016. He was born October 3, 1957 in Bad Axe Michigan, the son of Edward and Agnes (Leavine) Jimpkoski. Dennis and Cathy L. Heilig were married on July 1, 1978 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin, MI. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and NASCAR. He owned and loved his 1969 Chevy Camaro and enjoyed taking Sunday drives and playing golf. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Port Austin,MI where he served as an usher. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Bella and Daisy. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Martha Miller; in-laws, William and Alta Kauffman; and brother-in-law, John Kauffman.
Maxine F. Kauffman, 74 of Pigeon, passed away at home on Thursday, October 13, 2016 while under hospice care. She was born to Earl L. and Martha R. (Long) Miller in Midland on June 26, 1942 and was a 1961 graduate of Midland High School. On April 21, 1962 she was united in marriage with William Clayton Kauffman in Midland, and they have celebrated 54 years of marriage. Maxine dearly loved her grandsons and faithfully attended their school activities and sporting events. She enjoyed reading and cross-stitching; she made the best corned beef casserole and macaroni and cheese. In her early years, Maxine enjoyed gardening, camping, and making homemade ketchup. Maxine suffered with neuropathy since 1976 that limited her activities. She also had multiple bouts with cancer. She was a faithful member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church, and active with the quilting group. Years ago she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

John C. Richardson, 50, of Memphis, Michigan, formerly of Harbor Beach passed away October 12th from injuries sustained in a semi-truck accident. John was the son of the late Arundel Richard II, and Vicky (Duncan) Richardson. He and Brenda Koglin were united in marriage on August 14, 1993 in Port Hope. John was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Clinton Township. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed raising show hogs with his family. John was a gravel train driver employed by Five Little Truckers Inc. in Utica; for many years he worked for Depcinski Trucking of Cass City.

Mr. Milford Carpenter, age 98, died peacefully October 11th, 2016 at Shepherd’s Gate in Hartland, MI. Mr. Carpenter married Grace Beck in February of 1942 and they were together until the time of her death in October 10th, 1999. Mr. Carpenter was an employee of the Michigan Milk Producers Association, a member of Kilmanagh United Methodist Church, and a Veteran of World War II in the United States Army. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling, and time spent with his family.

Luella S. Ewald age 95, lifelong resident of Elkton, passed away Tuesday evening, October 11, at her home while under hospice care. She was born June 26, 1921 in Brookfield Twp at the home of her parents the late Charles and Louise (Steinman) Fritz. On August 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Arnold J Ewald at the Owendale Evangelical United Brethren Church and made their home on a farm east of Elkton. Arnold preceded her in death on June 30, 1972. Luella was an ambitious person, working with her husband on the farm. She also worked for Reilly Quinn and Ken Ginter in their Winding Shop rewinding electric motors for several years. From there, she was employed by the school as a cook. Later on in life she baby sat for many different families around Elkton. She was a longtime member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and attended the Community Wesleyan Church as well.

Wanda J. Tuckey, 88, of Cass City, died Monday, October 10, 2016 in her home, following a short illness. She was born March 25, 1928 at home in Usborne Township, Exeter, Ontario to Oscar Dwight and Anna Mary (Moir) Tuckey. She married James "Jim" Tuckey August 23, 1947 in Exeter, Ontario. He died December 10, 2014. Wanda's caregiving nature led her to study nursing after high school and before her marriage. She was a longtime member of Cass City Missionary Church serving as Sunday School Teacher for many years. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and gardening. Wanda worked as a Nurses Aide at Tendercare for 11 years.

Richard F Heintz age 69, lifelong resident of Pigeon, went to be with his Lord Sunday morning, October 9, following a long illness. He was born January 18, 1947 in Pigeon to the late George and Emma (Christner) Heintz. Rich graduated from Laker High School in 1965. On November 13, 1971, he was united in marriage to Birdie Lou Cove in Bad Axe. After high school Rich went to Pontiac to work at General Motors a few years. When he returned to Pigeon he was employed at Active Industries, Elkton. From there in went to Berne Enterprises and Alton Mfg. He retired from J & L Painting in 2009. Rich was an out of doors person, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid card player especially poker and could bluff with the best. His big passion was being with the grandchildren.

ANNA T. KOCIBA, age 100, of Harbor Beach, MI passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born on September 22, 1916 in Parisville, MI to the late Joseph and Teckla (Woycik) Romzek. Anna and Peter Kociba were united in marriage on January 28, 1933 in St. Mary’s Church of Parisville. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1983. Anna worked on the family farm, and was employed at Sandmann Grocery in Harbor Beach for many years. Anna was a member of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society, and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed baking bread, cooking (on high), flowers, gardening, nature, and being outside. She especially enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren.

She graduated from Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores in 1964. She married Hanlon Gary Sears on June 5, 1965 in St. Clair Shores. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2015. She lived in Hazel Park for 6 years before moving to Clawson to raise her family. She worked as a cook at Clawson Public Schools from 1978 to 1997. Having bought property in Caseville in 1985, she and her husband built a home there and moved permanently in 1997. She was an active member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping and quilting.

Frederick Arthur Collison, 75 of Pigeon, MI, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at Home Sweet Home Assisted Living. He was born September 17, 1941. He was baptized October 1941 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Berne, MI by Rev. A.W. Hueschen. He attended school at St. John’s and Pigeon School. He was confirmed at St. John’s on April 3, 1955. He was a life-long member of St. John’s. He served in many offices, was an usher, and choir member. Fred graduated from Pigeon High School in 1959. Fred served in the U. S. Army from February 1964 until February 1966. He worked at Pigeon Lumber Company from 1960 until 2003. He also worked at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon. He enjoyed taking care of his many flowers.

She was born on February 9, 1923 in Port Hope to the late Herman and Hedwig (Schultz) Steinbis. Her and Edwin Zick were united in marriage on April 10, 1948 in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2009. Esther worked with Edwin on the family farm. During her later years, her and Edwin would winter in Zephryhills, Florida.She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, the Sweet 16 Euchre Club, and the Port Hope Reitrees. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, working on puzzles, playing bingo, and fishing.

Judson G. McDonnell, 55, of Bad Axe, formerly of Howell, passed away on October 5, 2016 from injuries from an automobile accident. Jud was born on October 21, 1960 in Washington D.C. to Terrence and Noreen (McVey) McDonnell. Judson spent his early years in Maryland and Indiana before moving to Bad Axe. He was a 1978 graduate from Bad Axe High School. Jud continued his education, earning Bachelors in Engineering, and a Masters in Engineering from Michigan State University. He traveled to England and obtained his Masters in Japanese. Judson worked as an electrical engineer for the automotive industry. His work led him to live in Japan for one year and to Germany for half a year. Judson was an avid reader and loved to travel.

Doris Marie Kaufman, age 87, of Port Hope, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center in Harbor Beach after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Doris was born on August 27, 1929 to the late Paul and Beatrice (Hunter) Schave Sr. Doris and Nathan Kaufman were united in marriage on September 24, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope, Michigan. Doris was a lifelong resident of the Port Hope area and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she had been a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Port Hope Community School. Before her marriage, she worked for Unell Mfg. and then alongside her husband on their farm. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cards, dominoes and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many will fondly remember her abundant home-cooked meals and baked goods that fed family, friends and her church family.

Pete J. Falkenberg, 20, of Caseville, died accidentally Sunday, October 2, 2016 while working on his Jeep. Pete was born September 12, 1996 in Bad Axe to David and Terri (Anaman) Falkenberg. He graduated in 2014 from Caseville High School, where he had also attended the Huron Area Tech Center. He was 8 weeks from finishing his degree in ADI and Business at Baker College in Owosso. He enjoyed time with his friends, family and getting dirty.

Donna Rae Haley age 73 of Sand Point died Saturday morning, October 1, at her home while under hospice care. She was born November 24, 1946 in Ashland, KY and moved to the Detroit area in her youth with her parents the late Kenneth and Doris (Rydel) Wellman. Donna and Royce Haley were united in marriage in 1979 in Ortonville. They moved to Sand Point where they would spend their summers and after retiring, they would spend their winters in Florida. Royce preceded her in death in 2002. Donna was an excellent cook and baker, she enjoyed sewing, shopping, travel and entertaining. She was a very giving and caring person, and always willing to share what she had.

Jerome “Jerry” Longuski, 82 of Ubly, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a short illness. He was born on May 11, 1934 at home in Bingham Township to the late Leo and Victoria (Warchock) Longuski. He married Arlene Lamke on June 25, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Jerry worked with his brothers building silos for Longuski Silo Company. He then worked for and retired from Saginaw Asphalt Company after 37 years of employment. In 1964, Jerry was one of the founding members of the Ubly Fox Hunters and held the position of President in 1968 and 1969. He was very active in the Hunters Safety course for the youth of the community. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin in Newberry. Jerry loved to fish, hunt and tell hunting stories. He also tinkered with crafting wood projects.

Leroy “Lee” B. Wernette, 86, of Bad Axe, formerly of Filion and Elkton, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. Lee was born in Remus, Michigan to the late Roy and Nilah (Nichols) Wernette on February 17, 1930. Lee was in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Lee worked at many pharmacies and owned Huron Pharmacy. He loved spending time at the Bad Axe and Kinde Senior Centers, playing cards at the Knights of Columbus in Bad Axe, hunting, fishing, volunteering at the church and attending Bible study. On May 18, 1998, he married Emma Pietruck in Hawaii. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2009.

Biff is survived by his father Clifford Rinnert of Bad Axe, two sisters: Carrie Lapka and Stacey Rinnert, both of Bay City along with one brother, Derek Allgeyer of Bad Axe. He has three nieces, Kaylee, Janessa, and Ryleigh, along with one nephew, Anthony. He was also survived by his significant other, Hope Tolitsky and their dog, Ginger. He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy Lapka and nephew Andrew Genow.
Clifford H. Rinnert Jr., 26, died Friday, September 30 2016. He was born February 12th, 1990 in Bad Axe to Clifford Rinnert Sr. and the late Nancy Lapka. He graduated from Wenona High School in 2007 and from Delta College with an Associate’s Degree. Ever since he was young, family and friends knew him as Biff. Cliff loved to be around his family and friends. He was always very athletic and good at everything he tried. He enjoyed watching football, baseball and golfing. In the summer, he would play softball with his dad and friends. He was great with his hands and could make and fix anything he put his mind to. Biff always loved to joke and mess around with the kids. Sarcastic at times he was always trying to make everyone laugh and have a good time. He could light up a room with his humor and joy. Having such a charismatic soul, and amazing heart, his friends are endless. Biff was an amazing son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. Everyone he has crossed paths with will truly miss what an amazing individual he really was. And though our arms are empty, our hearts know what to do; every beat of my heart says “I remember you”. Like a shooting star flying across the room, so fast so far you were gone to soon.

She had ten grandchildren; Bryan and Kelli, Veginski Angie DeReuyter, Rachel DeLong, Rick Rokicki, Jessica Bruce, Nicholas and Lyndsay Jaworski, Michael Kurta, Derek Veginski, as well as 13 great-grandchildren - Oliver, Owen, Seth, Hunter, Devon, Ayden, Makayla, Malaci, Chloe, Lydia, Logan, Peyton and Brody. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Lillian Drake and Beatrice Drake, and many nieces and nephews. She is the last surviving sibling of four brothers; Joe, Irwin, Archie and Sylvester and four sisters; Barbara, Regina, Sophie and Alma.
Irene Josephine Veginski went to her heavenly rest on September 30, 2016. She was born in Dwight Township, on June 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Rice) Drake. She and her husband of 62 years, Felix Veginski, were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on November 8, 1947. They enjoyed the farm life together. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2010. Prior to her marriage she lived in the Port Huron area where she helped care for her nieces. She later was employed at the Chrysler plant. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin, where her children also attended school. Irene had a fun sense of humor and enjoyed her family. She appreciated nature and enjoyed birdwatching, playing cards, and gardening. She was a humble spirit with a generous heart who cared about the less fortunate.

Daniel R Baranski age 70 of Oliver Twp near Owendale died Thursday afternoon, September 29, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Saginaw following a massive heart attack. He was born April 11, 1946 in Detroit to the late Raymond and Dorothy (Gies) Baranski and came to Oliver Twp when he was a baby. On February 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to Angeline Peruski at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sandusky and made their home in Oliver Twp. By the time Dan was 16; he was holding a full time job, farming and milking cows. Dan worked at Kraft Tiling in Pigeon for many years, but enjoyed being on the farm. So he began working for Ron Gayari farming for a while and then started driving truck for Erla Foods, Cass City, retiring in 2011. Dan enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, hunting rabbits (in his youth) and just visiting and talking farming with neighbors and friends.

Sally A. Frost, 91, of Port Austin passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 surrounded by her family at Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 15, 1925 and was the daughter of the late North and Dorothy Bourne. She and her husband, Richard L. Dailey, raised their family in South Redford and spent summers at Broken Rocks, Port Austin. She was widowed at a young age when Richard died, and she later married William M. Frost. She and Bill made Broken Rocks their retirement home. They traveled extensively and spent their winters in Florida. He also preceded her in death. Sally was a loving mother, who had the ability to make each of her children feel like they were equally special to her. She was dearly loved by her family and everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and the people she has left behind. She was a person who truly managed to touch the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
