He is also survived by a sister-in-law Doris Bosch of Kalamazoo.
DR. ROBERT F. BOSCH, age 91 of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home under hospice care. He was born on August 20, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Frank and Helen (Kroneberger) Bosch. Dr. Bob and Helen Fitzpatrick were united in marriage on January 15, 1947 in Alma. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2001. Dr. Bob enlisted in the US Army on August 1, 1942. Shortly there after he was inducted in to the Office of Strategic Services, now known as the Central Intelligence Agency. He spent time in India living in Tents and training to parachute into China, behind Japanese enemy lines, where they would be blowing up specific targets. He was even given a special “Pill” to take if he was captured, to kill himself so no information could be shared. Dr. Bob was discharged as a first lieutenant on October 19, 1945 earning one bronze star. He remained in the officers reserves until 1992. After serving during World War II, Dr. Bob attended the Illinois College of Optometry, which led him to his practice in Harbor Beach, and later Bad Axe, before retiring in 1985. Dr. Bob was a member of the Harbor Beach Lions Club, the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, the American Optometric Association, and the Harbor Beach United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing at Verona Hills Golf Club.

Richard "Dick" Gemmill, 85, of Caseville, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home while under hospice care. Richard Charles was born October 27, 1927 in Cass City to the late Mark and Clara (Woodruff) Gemmill. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Warren. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He married Dorothy Craft on October 2, 1948 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Warren. She preceded him in death on September 17, 2004. He retired as a salesman for US Plywood. In 1990 he moved from Warren to his beloved home on Lake Huron in Lake Township. He was a member of the Caseville Eagles. He enjoyed golf and watching Detroit sports.

Cynthia (Cindy) Weaver Rader, 56, of Bad Axe, passed away from complications due to her battle with leukemia, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at the University of Michigan Mott Children and Women’s Hospital. Her family was by her side. Cindy was born Jan. 17, 1956, in Pittsburgh, Penn., and was a graduate of Bad Axe High School, class of 1974. She also attended Central Michigan University. Cindy formerly worked at the Palm Beach Post, Intermediate School District office, the Huron Daily Tribune, Head Start, the Learning Center and as a baby sitter. She participated in many activities and hobbies, including knitting, sewing, cooking/baking and reading. She was a 4-H leader and loved spending time with family and friends, her pets, Cabin Confections, spending time at the family cottage on Lake Erie and attending the annual Hungarian Festival. Cindy lived an exemplary life and the life she wanted. She enjoyed being healthy and active with Yochilates, walking and yoga.

He and Shirley (LaDouceur) Walsh were married on August 18, 1962 in St. Felix Catholic Church, by Father Joseph Schabel. He was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church. He was lifetime area farmer. The Walsh family farm was in his family for over 150 years.

James L. “Jim” Sweeden, 75 of Caseville, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at McLaren Bay Region Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Morrilton, Arkansas on September 19, 1937, he was the son of James L. and Bessie Rae (Anders) Sweeden, and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in Warren. On March 9, 1961 he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Snider in Warren, and the couple has been married for more than 50 years. Jim served with the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. As a Private, he was assigned to Fort George G. Meade in Maryland, where he learned to cook. He was an excellent cook and will be especially remembered for his spaghetti sauce. Jim was a professional glass glazer, completing his internship in September, 1965. In 1972 he established Groesbeck Glass & Glazing in Warren, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1991. The family still owns and operates the business today. Jim was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed boating in Saginaw Bay and had completed the U.S. Coast Guard Power Squadron course. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports with his grandsons. He dearly loved animals, especially his family pets and cats over the years. Jim was a member of the Caseville F.O.E. #3690 as well as the Caseville American Legion Jean Post #543 .

Mr. Bernard “Bernie” R. Puvalowski, a prominent area farmer, 78 of Ruth, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Bernie was born on May 20, 1934 in Sigel Township, the oldest child of the late Frank and Sylvia (Pawlowski) Puvalowski. He married Mary Ann Plevnia on October 27, 1955. She preceded him in death on August 27, 1965. He married Betty Bartek on August 9, 1969 at St Cyril Catholic Church in Bannister, MI. Farming was Bernie’s true passion in life. While he farmed, he also worked at Nestles Factory in Ubly for several years. He was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was currently President of the Cemetery Committee. He also served as a Eucharist Minister, Usher, and member and past Chairperson of the Festival Committee for many years. He was a member of the Ubly Community School Board where he served as President for several years. Bernie loved polka music, dancing and playing his guitar. His other passion in life was spending time with his family, especially when they would all gather at his home for Christmas Eve. He also enjoyed birthday visits to his children and grandchildren.

She was born June 7, 1916 in the Kinde area, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Cheslock) Sosnoski. She married Chester Goretski on November 6, 1937. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1990. Lottie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin.

Michael G. Hall, 80, of Ubly, died suddenly Friday, December 7, 2012. He was born May 8, 1932 in Ubly to James and Helen (Wrubel) Hall. Mike was the owner of Roads End Sales in Ubly where he specialized in sales and repair of construction air tools. Mike was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Japan and Korea in the 1950's, where he was decorated with the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Elks Club of Decatur, IN. Mike was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He was a people person and a social guy and found great enjoyment in getting to know people. Mike took great pride in being able to spend his retirement years at the family farm, which has been in the Hall family for over a century. Most importantly, Mike enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Florence Ann Zimmer, 102, of Caseville, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at her home while under hospice care. Florence was born August 30, 1910 in Chandler Township to the late Arthur and Mary Jane (Eddy) Whitney. She lived her entire live in Huron County, many of those years on a farm on Kinde Road near Pinnebog as a homemaker and wife. In 1970 she moved into her home in Caseville. She was a life member of the Pinnebog United Methodist Church. She took pride in her appearance, and didn’t like leaving home unless she looked her best, usually dressed in her signature red.

He was born on August 28, 1916 in Harbor Beach to the late Albert and Martha (Abraham) Binkle. Eugene and Esther Scherer were united in marriage on October 22, 1939 in Harbor Beach. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1999. Eugene worked as a Lab Tech for Hercules in Harbor Beach for 41 years, retiring on June 30, 1977. He graduated from Harbor Beach High School from the Class of 1936, where he lettered in football. Eugene enjoyed watching the Harbor Beach High School Football Team throughout the years, cooking, gardening, bird watching, the Detroit Tigers and listening to his 911 scanner.

John Edward Guza, 83, life-long resident of Huron County, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012, peacefully at the home of his son, Jack, in Potterville, MI. John was born June 7, 1929, to John P. Guza and Emma M. Kappler Guza, in Gladwin, MI. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed at Memphis, TN. On March 5, 1948, John married Dessie Delores Bryant, and to that union were born their three children, Karoll, Gretchen, and John B. (Jack). On April 21, 1995, John married Joy Ann Hunt, and they shared seventeen wonderful years together. John was an avid outdoorsman who owned and operated Verona Gun Shop for many years. As a young man, he was employed at Fairmont Foods, in Bad Axe. John worked in various skilled trades throughout his life. His last position was with the State of Michigan as a power plant operator. John deeply loved his family, who knew they could find him working on a project in his barn, often with good friend, Ron McGeachy. He took pride in his ability to repair just about anything. A man of many talents, John created unique wood-constructed pieces, many of which he gave to family and friends, and was always willing to lend a hand when needed.

She is survived by her children Catherine (Jose) Garcia of Ypsilanti, Miriam (Art) Belding of Norway, Herbert (Ellen) Schuette of Huntersville, NC, Margaret Schuette of Kalamazoo, Paul (Karen) Schuette of Pigeon, and Elizabeth (Jack) Tinker of Middletown, CT; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister Ruth Gambee of Burlington, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by her brothers Theodore, Gerhardt and Herbert Richter; and sisters Elsa Vosburgh and Erna Parker.
Gertrude Marie Christine Richter was born on December 23, 1920 in Detroit, to Rev. Emil Edward George and Martha Sophia Wilhelmine (Lembke) Richter, while her father was conducting a funeral service. The youngest of seven children, she spent her childhood in Detroit and Pemberville, Ohio where her father served as pastor of several Lutheran Churches. She graduated in 1938 from Pemberville, Ohio High School and attended business school in Detroit. When her father was called to serve as pastor of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, Gertrude came to live with them, working in a dental office and as a telephone operator. It was then that she met Adolph Schuette, a lifelong resident of Pigeon, whom she married on May 29, 1943. They purchased the farm at 329 S. Maxwell Road in Oliver Township where their six children were raised. Adolph preceded her in death on June 20, 2001. In 2008 she moved to Norway, Michigan to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Gertrude was very active in Cross Lutheran Church as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and women’s circle groups. Beside her busy work on the farm, she loved to garden, sew, read, and work on cross-stitch projects. She also was an excellent cook.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Stepanski, and three sisters, Helen Davis, Sister H. Camille I.H.M. and Leona Newman.
Lillain I. Kanarek,100, of Port Austin died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born July 27, 1912 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Francis and Stephanie (Lipinski) Stepanski. She married Lawrence Kanarek in March, 1935 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Detroit. He preceded her in death in July of 1955.

Henry P. Kubacki, age 73 of Kinde, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on July 27,1939 in Kinde, son of the late Peter E. and Bertha (Warchuck) Kubacki. He married Jeanette Polega on October 22, 1960 in St. Mary Catholic Church of Dwight. Henry was a lifelong Huron Township farmer. He enjoyed cutting wood, wood crafting, gardening and playing cards with friends and family.

Christine Marie Yaroch, 94, of Marlette, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Marlette Extended Care Facility in Marlette, Michigan. She was born December 17, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Valentine and Florence (Miller) Byarski. Christine married Edwin C. Yaroch on June 30, 1948 in Port Austin. He died on October 13, 1999. They moved to Marlette in 1953 from Bad Axe. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and a past member of the Rosary Society at the church. Christine worked for many years at the Polewach store in Marlette.

Joanne Kay Pietscher, age 84, of Caseville, MI - formerly of Bad Axe, MI; passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. She was born on November 19, 1928 in Saginaw, MI, daughter of the late Paul & Hazel (Bowen) Olmsted. She married Keith William Pietscher on April 12, 1952 in the Saginaw Second Presbyterian Church. They had been married for 60 years. Joanne was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Central Michigan University. She was a teacher for 30 years, mainly at Bad Axe High School, focusing on Speech and English. She also served as the director for the debate team. She was a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and attending, directing, and acting in theater productions.

Mr. Arthur “Art” N. Susalla, 92, formerly of Bad Axe and Ubly, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Woodland Acres AFC Home in Snover where he was a resident. He was born on August 21, 1920 in Paris Township to the late Stanley and Anna (O’Berski) Susalla. He married Rita Kaliszewski on November 6, 1943 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2006. Arthur attended a country school and then worked in the city for three years. He was employed at Nestle for 25 years as Weight Manager. He worked as a painter and home decorator for 65 years before retiring at 80 years old, which was his hobby and passion. Arthur was a drummer in a polka band. He was a former member of the Ubly Fox Hunters. He was a former parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. Arthur’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you for the exceptional care given to him by Evelyn Minard and the staff of Woodland Acres AFC Home in Snover.

George Cole Gibson, 90, of Howell, Michigan, formerly of Port Austin, died November 27, 2012. He was born on December 17, 1927 in Detroit, son of the late Bruce and Ida (Taylor) Gibson. He and Pearl LesPerance were married on April 27, 1946 in St. Michael’s in Pontiac, Michigan. She preceded him in death in July of 2004. George retired from General Motors in 1974. He and his wife were summer residents of Port Austin and moved to the area after retiring. He is a past member of St. Michael’s in Port Austin, a member of the Port Austin American Legion 499 in Port Austin. George enjoyed cross stitching and woodworking.
