He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Blome and sister-in-law, Elaine Buchholz.

Biography

Clarence was born January 28, 1934, on the family farm in Oliver Township to the late Ernest and Marie (Wurst) Buchholz. He was baptized and confirmed at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. He attended Cross Lutheran School from 4th to 8th grade and graduated from Elkton High School in 1952. On December 3, 1960, he married Inez Moeller at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe where he served as an Elder until 1974 when they moved to Elkton. He joined Cross Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and trustee. He worked on the family farm until he bought a truck and hauled loads for Pigeon Co-Op, Wallace and Morley, Agri-Sales and Smith Douglas, retiring in 2011. He loved deer hunting and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

SUZANNE GENEVIEVE (RZYHAK) WINKELMANN, Age 61, passed away Monday March 26, 2018 at her home in New London, North Carolina surrounded by her family. She was born on March 14, 1957 in Detroit Michigan, the daughter of Genevieve F (Dudzik) Rzyhak of Midland Michigan and the late John P. Rzyhak. Suzanne and Troy Winkelmann were married September 16, 1986 in Ocho Rios Jamaica. After graduating from Port Austin High School and attending Michigan State University “Suzie” moved to Clearwater Florida. After becoming a flight attendant for Piedmont Airlines in 1989, Suzie and Troy relocated to Charlotte NC. Suzie was artsy. A love of painting, a way of transforming everything she touched into something beautiful, her talent was displayed in her many shops around town.Troy and her family wish to thank her many friends from the Uwharrie Point Community for the outpouring of love and support. A special thank you to Dr. Eric Mallico, Dr. William Brinkley and the entire staff of the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. A special thank you to Debbie Kelton for being a wonderful friend. Suzie will be missed by so many. The lives she touched will never be the same. She loved to travel, loved to shop, never met a stranger, always quick with a hug.

Addie “Mae” Krohn, age 82, of Bad Axe passed away at her home on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Mae was born on May 12, 1935 in Fairgrove, MI, daughter of the late Carmen and Phebe (Murday) Hunter. She married Donald Henry Krohn on September 30, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1988. Mae worked at Hamill Manufacturing for many years and still had fond memories. She worked as a CENA for 20+ years at Courtney Manor and that was her beloved place of work. Mae loved bowling, the Detroit Tigers, playing cards, video games and of course, crossword puzzles.

Mr. Henry Gucwa, 76 of Sachse, TX and formerly of Ubly, passed away March 23, 2018 in Sachse. He was born on February 6, 1942 in Indiana to the late Joseph J. and Stella (Stasiak) Gucwa. He never married. Henry attended the Sweeney Country School. He graduated from St. John Elementary School and was a 1959 graduate of Ubly High School. He served in the US Navy for four years. Henry attended ITT Technology School n Detroit. He moved to Houston, TX to work for Texas Instrument. He then moved to the Dallas area, specifically, Sachse and started his own business as a salesman in the automotive parts industry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Henry loved to tinker in his workshop, aka his “Disneyland”.

Thomas Polk, age 80, of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Thomas was born on January 23, 1938 in Verona Township, son of the late Thomas and Clara (Longuski) Polk. Sr. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1956 and then served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He married Patricia Michaud on April 21, 1972 at St. Claude Catholic Church in Clinton Township, MI. Thomas was a member of St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bad Axe where he was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus of Bad Axe. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion of Harbor Beach. He sailed the Great Lakes for 11 years with Columbia Shipping Lines. Thomas enjoyed hunting especially in Wyoming. He loved racing his horses at the race tracks. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years.

Mr. Aloise “Al” B. Puvalowski, 88 of Ubly, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Al was born on September 29, 1929 at home on Finkel Road in Harbor Beach to the late Vincent and Anna (Rumptz) Puvalowski. He married Lottie Knoblock on April 28, 1951 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Port Austin. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2005 . Al attended and graduated from the Kipper Rural School. Al raised and farmed with his family in Ubly, retiring in 1990. In addition to farming, he also worked many places in his life; Carmet, Hamil Manufacturing in both Ubly and Bad Axe, Gemini Transport, Lyntex Manufacturing as one of their drivers, Thumb Area Transit, as a bus driver at the Ubly Community Schools and Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. Al was one of the original members and former secretary of the Ubly Fox Hunters Club. He was also a member of the Sheridan Knights of Columbus Council #12850.

David K. Motley, 61, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018 at Huron Medical Center. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 22, 1956 to Joyce (Jones) and the late Herbert Motley. On August 29, 1998, he married Peggy Louks in Gaylord, Michigan. Dave worked at General Motors Powertrain, retiring after thirty years. He enjoyed watching old western movies, watching football and spending time with his dog, Jasmin.

Bill Denbrock, age 88 of Bad Axe, passed away March 15, 2018. He was born in Coldwater, Michigan on June 23, 1929 to Bernard and Pauline Denbrock. Bill graduated from Marshall High School, class of 1947. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Michigan State. Bill married his wife, Nancy, on April 17, 1996. Throughout his life, music was one of Bill’s greatest passions. He began playing the saxophone at an early age and was a very talented musician. In college, Bill played in the Michigan State Spartan Marching Band. Upon graduating, he became a band director and music educator and spent the majority of his career at Laker High School. As a gifted saxophone player, Bill played in several musical groups ranging from The Staccatos to larger ensembles like the Community Band and The Bob Olsen Big Band, which later became The Bill Denbrock Big Band. His 14 piece ensemble performed countless concerts, benefits and events throughout the area for more than 30 years, specializing in big band, swing, and jazz music. Bill was an adjudicator, traveling across the state judging high school band competitions. Bill was an avid photographer. In 1987, he and Nancy established Bill Denbrock Photography focusing on weddings and family portraits. An enthusiastic golfer, Bill enjoyed playing in several leagues. Bill’s passions included chess, history,reading and following his favorite sports teams, especially the Spartans.

Dorothy Camarda, 70, of Port Austin, died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. She was born on April 27, 1947 in Toronto, Canada. Dorothy married Joseph Camarda in May of 1980 at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church in Warren. Dorothy and Joseph moved from Warren to Port Austin in 1996. She worked at the Franklin Inn in Bad Axe and enjoyed spending her time with her family.

ALLEN J. MESSING, age 69 of Ruth, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his home under hospice care. He was born on March 25, 1948, in Harbor Beach, to the late Roman and Clara (Kirsch) Messing. Allen and Shirley Swartz were united in marriage on October 12, 1968 at OLLH Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Allen graduated from the Ruth Sts. Peter and Paul High School in 1966. He worked on the farm, and then retired from Tower Automotive after 23 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council 11432 of Harbor Beach. He enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, bowling hunting, and watching the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions.

Maida is survived by her children: Dr. Dell (Holly) Fuller of Bozeman, Montana, Ronald (Karlene) Fuller of Coralville, Iowa, Nancy (Gary) Rohlfs of Whitmore Lake, MI, Paul (Debra) Fuller of Gagetown, MI, David (Marcia) Fuller of Belgrade, Montana and Timothy Fuller of Bozeman, Montana; grandchildren, Marcus, Meghan, Alison, Emily, Drew, Christina, Christopher, Jennifer, David, Andrea, Randi, Stefanie, Jacob, Paul, Jonathan and Claudia; and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Biography

Maida was born in Elkton on February 3, 1927, to Otto “Art” Ewald and Rosa (Kercher) Ewald. After graduating from high school, she worked as a Teacher’s Aide for 15 years. She married Gerald C. Fuller on January 8, 1949, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Elkton. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2012. Maida was very active with the Gideon’s, was a prayer warrior, taught Sunday School, loved singing in the choir, was the Fairgrove Village Treasurer for many years, and was active with many state and national elections. She and her husband were also very active at Bay Shore Camp and attended their assembly every summer. Maida also enjoyed playing games, watching the Detroit Pistons, U of M Hockey, and the Detroit Tigers. She was an active supporter of Youth for Christ, enjoyed traveling and joking around, and had a special glimmer in her eye.

Biography

Marlene B. Harbin, 83, of Marlette, formerly of Romeo, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. She was born February 8, 1935 in Macomb County the fourth of five children born to Thomas Earl and Dessalee (Stickle) Rapson. She married Cecil Ray Harbin June 28, 1952. He died December 28, 1981. Marlene later married Richard Thomas Harbin August 3, 1985 in St. John Lutheran Church, Romeo. He died February 20, 2015. Marlene graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1953 where she sang in the choir. She worked for the dry cleaners in Bad Axe for a time, at the same time keeping the books for Cecil’s milk route. After selling the milk route they moved to Virginia. It was during their time in Virginia that the opportunity to start an Adult Foster Care Home arose. Marlene worked hard managing their Adult Foster Care Homes in Romeo and Harbor Beach. Not only managing, she was hands on with the clients and the day to day running the business. Over the years Marlene bowled on several leagues in the Thumb, she enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles. She also liked to visit the casinos and always came home a winner. Marlene enjoyed watching NASCAR on television and sports, especially the Detroit Lions.

He was the manager of Michigan Livestock Exchange in Cass City from 1963 to 2000. He then became part owner of Great Lakes Cattle Marketing Company from 2000 to 2012. Bob enjoyed his grandchildren, bowling, casinos, and his poker buddies.

Patricia M. Schwalm, 80, of Caseville, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at her home under hospice. Patricia was born May 25, 1937 in Detroit to the late James and Elizabeth (Langley) Kelly and moved to Huron County with her family at 5 years of age. She was a graduate of Caseville Schools. On November 7, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gale Schwalm at the Caseville Methodist Church. Patricia was a farm wife like no other, worked horses, drove tractor, milked cows, baled hay, all while raising three children. She sang in the church choir many years and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzles and playing Aggravation.

Judith D. Gordon, 75, of Verona Township, passed away on March 5, 2018 at Huron Medical Center. She was born in Ubly, Michigan on September 27, 1942 to the late Robert and Evelyn Allen. Judy graduated from Ubly High School in 1960. On June 9, 1962, she married the love of her life, William (Bill) Gordon. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2001. She was known as the neighborhood second mom (Ma Gordon). She was a book-keeper for Cooks T.V. and worked for Wash King. In her younger years, she loved to bowl and play Bingo. She loved horses, cooking and hosting dinners and cook-outs for all her family, friends and neighbors. Her favorite hang-out spot was at the Verona Tavern. She was a very generous, loving person and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Donna was born on June 29, 1926 in Sandusky to the late Ira and Vera (Holstine) Smith. She married Michael J. Walsh on February 18, 1943 in Abilene, TX. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2006. Donna attended the Freiburg Country School. She worked as a Rosie the Riveter for a few years. She moved to the Ubly during WWII. Michael joined Donna once the war was over and they raised their children while she worked by Michael’s side on their family farm. Donna was a parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish where she was a former member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed ceramics, reading, traveling to the Lawrence Welk Resort and visiting with Archie and Penny Guigar.

Donna Marie Goniwicha, age 74, of Paw Paw, passed away March 2, 2018. She was born in Harbor Beach, June 13, 1943 to the late Laverne and Sylvia (Kozal) Terbrack. She married Richard Goniwicha at St’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church on November 6, 1965. Donna attended St’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church and School in Ruth Michigan, where she graduated from high school. She spent her early years as a homemaker, raising the family and working on crafting projects that included quilting, creating treasured pieces for her family. Donna also enjoyed baking and cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. A giver at heart, Donna would do anything possible to help others. She was a longtime volunteer and parishioner at the Catholic churches she attended through the years – St. Joseph’s Church, Rapson; St. Ambrose Church, Delton; St. Ann’s Church, Richland and Saint Mary’s Church, Paw Paw. Once the children left home, Donna went to work at Meijer for several years.

Barbara A. Henderson, 94, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2018 at Northwood Meadows Assisted Living in Cass City under Compassus Hospice care. Barbara was born in Applegate, Michigan on April 7, 1923 to the late William E. and Mary E. Paterson. On June 30, 1944, she married Wm. Harold Henderson in Sandusky, Michigan. He preceded her in death in August 2002. She owned and operated the Henderson Sales family business for thirty-five years. Barb attended the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. She loved to travel to Florida for the winter, was an avid reader, enjoyed crafting, teaching Sunday school, entertaining others with dinner parties and spending time with her friends, church, and family, especially her grandchildren.
