Richard is survived by his wife Oma-Kay of nearly 55 years, daughter Michele (Jim) Morell, and son Troy Armstrong (special friend Dee Dee). Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matthew (special friend Ashley) Newbegin, Allison (special friend Harry) Newbegin, and Skye Armstrong; one sister Beverly (Don) Hazard; sisters in law Sharron Hartwick and Catherine (Robert) Williams, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Tonya Armstrong, brothers in law, Jack Hartwick, and Jack VanAllen.

Biography

Richard L. Armstrong, age 80, of Bad Axe and formally Manistee and Rockport, TX, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at home surrounded by family. Richard was born on February 20, 1939, in Cass City, to the late Norman and Julia (Crocker) Armstrong. He married Oma-Kay Hartwick on June 6, 1964. Richard graduated from Elkton high school in 1957 then went on to serve the U.S Navy for 4 years before starting his career at GM as a machinist. He worked for Buick in Flint as a skilled tradesman for 32 years before retiring. He spent his retirement years in Manistee, MI during the warmer seasons and then traveled south to Rock Port, TX during the colder months. Together he and his wife also spent their retirement years traveling across the country visiting 46 of the 50 states. His favorite things to do was to go salmon fishing on his boat, RodDancer, on Lake Michigan, having happy hour with his buddies, attending NASCAR events, and spending time playing card games with his children and grandchildren.

Biography

Patricia Ann Kretchman, 77, of Kinde, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 27th 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Joseph and Josephine Andreski of Kinde. Patricia is one of 8 children. She married Walter Rice on July 20, 1963, and was married for 15 years until he passed away on March 2, 1978. She married Earl Kretchman on October 21, 1989. Patricia retired from Dow Agro Science in Harbor Beach as a Lab technician. She and Earl loved to go traveling and camping often. She enjoyed her flower garden, and watching and feeding the birds. Patricia is known for her beautiful cross stitching and making baby quilts for her grandchildren and great grand- children, whom she enjoyed spending time with. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Sr. Citizens group in Kinde.

David Lee Hockin, of Caseville, formerly of Cheboygan, MI. age 65, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region surrounded by his family. He was born August 29, 1953 in Traverse City MI to the late Donavon and Willadean Hockin. He was a 1971 graduate of Cheboygan High School. He worked as a truck driver, owner operator for most of his life, also working for Buchholz Transport for several years prior to his retirement in 2017. Although he enjoyed hunting and spending time at the local coffee shop with friends, he loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. His passion was the pickups that he rebuilt to go FAST.

Josue Montesinos, age 37, of Bad Axe, went to heaven on March 23, 2019. Josue was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on January 30, 1982. He graduated high school in Glassboro, New Jersey and joined the Army in 2005, serving honorably until 2012. While in the Army, Josue was a combat engineer and a decorated combat veteran who served his country in Iraq. He had a passion for helping children and was completing his Master’s Degree from American Military University. Above all else, Josue was a loving and devoted father to his children.

Beatrice Rutkowski, a resident of Westland (formerly of Detroit and Ubly) Michigan, passed from this life on March 23, 2019 at the age of 88. Bea was born November 6, 1930 in Ubly, daughter to the late Leo and Victoria (Warchock) Longuski. Bea married Marshall Rutkowski on June 16, 1951; He preceded her in death on August 17, 2001. She was a member of Good Shepard Church in Ubly, and was also a member of St. Eugene Alumni and the Altar Society, and Our Lady of the Snow's Guild and Sunday School helper. She retired from McDonald's in 1989 and the Observer & Eccentric Newspaper in 2003. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, watching Jeopardy, and traveling to Arizona.

Biography

Alan Vincent​ Cole, age 64, died March 21, 2019 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 15, 1954, in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Vincent and Arloa (Stalker)​ Cole. Alan graduated from Troy High School in 1972 and the University of Michigan in 1976, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Education. In 1989 Al and Beth​ became Domino's Pizza franchise owners in Saginaw, MI. After 10 years, they sold the business and moved to Harbor Beach, MI. In 1999 Alan opened "Cole's Computers", later "Huron Computers" in Bad Axe, MI, retiring in 2014 due to health reasons. He was a member of Holy Name of Mary Parish in Harbor Beach, MI, where he enjoyed serving as a lector for Sunday Mass. Alan and​ Beth​ were married at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, on April 20, 1991. His greatest joy was in watching his two daughters, Crystal and Casey​ Cole, grow up. He was extremely proud to see them both attend his alma mater, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He loved his Michigan Wolverines and watched all the football and basketball games he could. Al loved all animals, but especially his faithful dogs.​

Paul was born on May 30, 1944 in Trenton, MI, son of the late Floyd and Hazel (Connolly) Prince. He married Patricia Shaltonis on August 21, 1983. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2018. Paul served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, making pizza for Super Bowl parties, listening to music of all genres and spending time with family and friends and was always willing to help.

Clarence James Eckenswiller, age 93 of Celina, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at his residence in Celina. He was born on Feb. 15, 1926 in Argyle, Michigan to the late William and Lucy Eckeswiller. On Aug. 28, 1960 he married Arla Nelson, who died Feb. 17, 2005. Clarence is survived by his daughter Diane Lee, three grandchildren Julianna Lee, Maleah Lee, Reneea Lee, two brothers and sisters-in-law John (Marilyn) Ecken of Caro, MI, Gerald (Betty) Eckeswiller of Troy, MI, Three sisters and brothers-in-law Rita (Fred) Lawrence of Green Valley, AZ, Mary (Harold) Spaetzel of Bad Axe, MI, Clara (Wallace) Brown of Cass City, MI. After High School Clarence served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan from 1950 until 1952. Kim B. Campbell, 65, of Rosedale, MS, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on March 13, 2019, at Montgomery Island Hunting Club. He was born November 5th, 1953, in Michigan, the son of the late Arnold "Wayne" and Majorie Ann ( Seley) Campbell. Kim was a "Jack of all Trades." He was a trapper, the caretaker of Mozart Hunting Club in Snow Lake, AR for about 16 years, a truck driver, a commercial fisherman, and recently the caretaker of Montgomery Island Hunting Club. Kim's passion in life was fishing. He had a love and respect for the Mississippi River. He could spend every minute of every day on that river. He also loved hunting, joking around, and aggravating everyone around him. Kim never met a stranger and could make friends with just about anyone. He was a loving man and a great father. He had a knack of making everyone around him feel special. Kim was a wonderful man that left an impact on everyone that he came in contact with.

She married Harold Heck November 7, 1942 in Elkton; he preceded her in death April 13, 2006. She retired from General Cable in Cass City and worked on the family farm. She was a member of the SOAR Retirement Group in Cass City. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children: William Charles Roe (Vicki Howard) of Asheville, North Carolina; Debra Lynn Rathbun of Mission, Texas; and David Allen (Nancy) Roe of Caro, MI. Eight grandchildren: Jennifer Roe, Benjamin Kohl Roe, Chelsea Ann Roe, Tracy Lee (David) Schulz, Brandy June (Bill) Hoch, Dayna Marie Roe, Alexis Nicole (Kyle) Cook and Erica Michelle Roe; Step-grandchildren : Ashley Brook Coates, Benjamin Michael McFarland, Lucas Dean (Noelle) McFarland and Hannah Jean McFarland. Five great-grandchildren Hadley Roe Hoch, Edyn Rose Hoch, Baley Leigh McFarland, Jaxson Robert McFarland and Raven Christine McFarland. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill on June 1, 2013, to whom she had been married 62 years; her brothers Roland Kohl, Floyd Kohl, Bob Kohl, Kenneth Kohl, Henry (Heine) Kohl and Walt Kohl; her sisters Goldie Haag, Vera Deering, Stella Arthur, Helen Warner, Florence Haag and son-in-law Spencer Rathbun. Her family would especially like to thank those neighbors and friends for assisting with taking such great care of Dorothy. The selfless love you all provided her is a true testament to a wonderful community and exceptional friendship and dedication. Your commitment to her allowed her to live out her dream of remaining in her home, a place she lived in and loved for over 63 years.

Biography

Dorothy Ann Roe, 88, of Pigeon, MI passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at her home with her family by her side. Born May 13, 1930 in Pigeon, MI she was the daughter of the late Henry and Fannie Kohl of Bay Port, MI. She attended the Quarry Country School and graduated from Pigeon High School Class of 1949. On September 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Bill Roe in Bay Port. Dorothy was a loving wife and mother. She was an avid reader and in the past 5 years alone had read over 500 books. She loved working with people and sharing the herbal remedies through Nature's Sunshine. Her greatest joy was visiting with family and friends, sharing her past experiences and always adding a bit of humor. Dorothy was a life long member of the Community of Christ Church in Bay Port and was also a member of their women's group.

The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to caregiver Annette Johnson and Compassus Hospice. Special thanks also to his son, Rick, who made so much possible for Bill as his health struggled. Our hearts will mourn his passing but know that he is at peace and we will someday reunite. Biography

Anthony William (Bill) Champagne, 86, of Pinnebog, died peacefully at home with his children at his bedside on Monday, March 11, 2019. Bill was born on December 29, 1932 in Pinnebog to the late Clarence and Muriel (Thompson) Champagne. He married Dorothy Agnes (Dot) Champagne on November 24, 1962 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Port Austin, Michigan. They shared their lives together for nearly 56 years until her death on August 17, 2018. Bill graduated from Elkton High School and was a lifelong member of St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. He was an excellent provider for his family and began his work life on the family farm. Bill was later employed at McBride’s Tile at Gotts Corner and retired from Tower Automotive (formerly Active Industries) in Elkton. Bill was an avid euchre player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as watching the Detroit Tigers and Pistons. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. Bill fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease for over 15 years. While his body gradually gave way, his heart and mind remained true to form until the end. Bill never complained and taught us all through his fight with this disease that life is not always fair but to make the best hand out of the cards you have been dealt.

Jim was born February 18, 1954 to Eugene “John” and Bernice (McGeachy) Barry. He graduated from Laker High School in 1972 and Michigan State University. He worked for Farm Home Administration in several offices across northern Michigan. After retirement, he enjoyed selling pasties at farmer’s markets in the Kalamazoo area. Jim was an avid reader; a book or newspaper was always at hand. He enjoyed History, world travel, including volunteering with the Peace Corps in Belize, going to Music Festivals, Folk Dancing, and volunteering at the Wheatland Music Festival

Biography

Edmund M. Guza, 92, of Harbor Beach, MI passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019 at his residence. He was born on April 24, 1926 in Detroit, MI to the late Edmund G. and Elizabeth (Swartz) Guza. Edmund and Jeanette (Zurek) were united in marriage on October 9, 1948, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Smiths Corner, MI. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson, MI as well as a member of the parish council for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bad Axe, MI. Edmund was a farmer and well-known businessman for 30 years who owned and operated Guza Sales, Inc., Deckerville, MI. In his younger years he enjoyed playing fast pitch baseball. He could whistle like a bird. He loved fishing, bowling, cutting wood and working in his yard. He was a very social and quick-witted man who loved engaging people in conversation. He was proud of his Polish heritage and spoke in Polish whenever the opportunity arrived. Edmund was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army.

Pete was born October 31, 1929 at home in Chandler Twp to the late Peter Sr. and Olive (O’Connor) Champagne. He served in the US Army in the Korean War. While stationed in Japan he met Hisako “Susie” Shirai and they married in Yokohama, Japan on June 8, 1953. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Along with others he was a founding partner of Thumb Tool and Engineering. He was a employed at numerous Huron County manufacturing businesses and retired from Active Industries in Elkton.

She was born in Harbor Beach, MI on December 19, 1931 to the late William J. and Margaret G. (Hessling) Eppenbrock. Margaret married Kenneth J. Carpenter on July 12, 1996. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2009. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church/Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Kinde. Mickey enjoyed going on casino trips, working in her vegetable and flower gardens and cooking and baking.

She was born on May 19, 1929 in Harbor Beach to the late George and Lucille (Hopson) Attwater. She and Merle Barclay were united in marriage on August 20, 1949 in Harbor Beach. Merle preceded Gloria in death on December 27, 2011. Gloria was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harbor Beach. She was a former member of the Eastern Star. Gloria enjoyed music, singing, flowers, and her rose garden.

John G. Kotenko, Sr., age 79, of Bay Port, passed away Saturday morning, February 23, 2019, at Scheurer Hospital. John was born June 5, 1939, in Sebewaing, son of John F. and Mary (Klimkowski) Kotenko. John graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged. He married Edna Kain February 4, 1961 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sebewaing. He retired from General Motors in 1996. John loved fishing and spent much of his life fishing on the bay.

Bruce was born September 27, 1944 in Virginia, Minnesota. Bruce was partner of Hyzer, Hill, Kuzak CPA firm until his retirement in 2008. He loved his children, grandchildren, Minnesota Vikings, and was an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal. For many years Bruce was a member of the Verona Hills Golf Club and a faithful subscriber to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, 123 W Irwin St., Bad Axe, MI.
