Robert Junior Dast, 95, of Pigeon, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. Bob was born November 5, 1925 in Bay Port to the late Carl and Alice (Jaster) Dast. He attended Quarry Country School through the 6th grade and graduated from Bay Port High School in 1944 as valedictorian. He entered the US Army on July 11, 1944 training at Camp Roberts, California in heavy weapons. From there he traveled by ship to the island of Leyte in the Philippines. He was assigned to the First Field Hospital. He received an honorable discharge on July 29, 1946. In 1952 he became a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church- Berne. On June 29, 1957 he married Mary M. Diebel at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Berne. He was employed by the Wallace Stone Quarry, retiring in 1991 after 43 years of employment.

Mrs. Marion B. Messing, 89 of Ruth passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 with her family by her side while at the Lakeview Extended Care Facility in Harbor Beach. Marion was a lifelong parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Holy Apostles Parish in Ruth where she served on the school board and parish council. She was also a member and past president of the Christian Mothers and was crowned Mama Ruth Queen in 2000. Marion also served on the Harbor Beach School Board for many years. She was the president of the Country Sunshine Ladies group, president of the local extension group and an active member of the Red Hat Society and the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608. Marion was an avid quilter. Her talent for designing and putting colors together benefited her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by keeping them warm at night with one the many quilts she made throughout the years. She also shared her love of quilting with many others by teaching classes in her home for 30 years. Joe and Marion enjoyed traveling together, especially the comradery and fun with their card club friends. Marion cherished most of all her time with her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren being her pride and joy.

Rev. Hays Wiltshire, Jr., age 90 of Harbor Beach passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on January 16, 1931 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Hays & Sara (Berry) Wiltshire, Sr. Hays and Charlotte Knak were united in marriage on June 27, 1957 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2014. He was a minister of various churches in Michigan and in the thumb, and was former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Beach. He was a graduate of Hillsdale College. He was a member of the Port Hope Train Depot, and was an avid model train enthusiast. He was an active stamp collector and enjoyed computer games and living at the lake.

Ronald J. Sweeney, affectionately known as “Grumpa†to his family, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.  He was 72 Years old. Ron was born in Cass City, Michigan, to the late James B. And Virginia (Sowden) Sweeney, the eldest of 6 children.  He married Joanne (Ellicott) Sweeney on October 25th, 1969. Ron worked his entire career with Tower Automotive in machine repair.  Throughout his life he enjoyed time working on his homestead, raising some animals in the distant past, growing a large garden and always keeping his lawn well-manicured.  As of late, his favorite hobby was baseball practice with his grandson Logan in a large section of his yard that he mowed especially for the game.  He called it his field of dreams.Â

Kurt Edward Young, age 42, of Filion, passed away after a short illness on Monday, July 5, 2021 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital with his family by his side. Kurt was born on September 28, 1978 at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. Kurt graduated from Laker High School in May of 1996. He worked at Thumb Tool and Engineering for 25 years as a production CAD manager. He enjoyed his job and being with his family and friends. He was a fun loving easy going person who enjoyed life to the fullest. Everyone enjoyed being around him. He will be missed dearly by family and friends. His children say they will always miss his laugh.

Edwin Jaworski, 78, of Filion, died Sunday, July 4, 2021, at his home while under the care of McLaren Hospice. Edwin’s family was by his bed when he, peacefully, went to meet his Lord. He was born September 2, 1942, in Dwight Township, the son of the late Sylvester and Rose (Polega) Jaworski. He married Christine Palach on July 3,, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville. Ed worked on the family farm most of his life. He was employed at Active Manufacturing in Pigeon, U.S. Manufacturing, and Harbor Beach Wire. He also cut grass at the St. Edward’s Cemetery. Ed loved horses and owned some until his time of death. He was a member of the Indian Trails Riding Club where especially enjoyed the Rodeo and trail rides. Ed enjoyed church festivals and dancing with his wife, Chris to Polkas and Oberek. His music of choice was definitely Country. Other hobbies of Ed’s include caring for the landscaping of his house and yard and one of his true pleasures was driving his wife, Chris, to and from work.

Dorothy Ann (Konkel) Harris, age 94, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully at her home under Heartland Hospice Care surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 1, 2021 Dorothy was born in Detroit on September 22, 1926, daughter of the late John and Josephine (Obara) Konkel. She grew up in the Ubly/Austin Center area. Dorothy was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She worked multiple jobs, including Gainor Meat Packing, Hamill Seat Belt, the pickle factory and then worked at the Huron Daily Tribune until retirement. Most of all she worked hard to raise her young family. Dorothy loved to bowl, play cards, garage sales, putting puzzles together, dancing the polka, watching Tiger baseball, but most of all, she loved being around family.

Carolyn Leona Pedler, 88, of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe, surrounded by her loved ones and caretakers as she passed to reunite with her husband James (Jim) Pedler and daughter Sharon Fisher in heaven. Carolyn was born February 23, 1933 in Bad Axe to the late Earl and Evelyn (Stewart) Drummond. On May 5, 1951 Jim and Carolyn were united in marriage at the Caseville R.L.D.S. Church; he preceded her in death September 29, 2011. She was a proud homemaker who tended to her home, farm and family’s needs. She loved everything about life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them, she loved them with every inch of her being. Harley Lyle Faber, age 81, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Harley was born July 30, 1939, in Huron County, to Lyle N. and E. Alice (Fritz) Faber. He is a 1957 graduate of Sebewaing High School. He married the love of his life, Rose M. Kemp on September 16, 1961 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Bach. Harley worked for Sebewaing Concrete for 29 years. He then started his own masonry business, Faber Masonry in 1985, semi-retiring in 2008. Harley deeply loved his wife and his family. He also enjoyed ice fishing for perch and working puzzles. He was the #1 fan and scorekeeper for the Detroit Tigers. Harley was actively involved in every aspect at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Rev. Ralph Thomas Cass, 79, of Sebewaing, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at Toni and Trish Hospice Home in Auburn. Tom was born February 14, 1942 in Cripple Creek, Colorado to the late William and Dagmar (Young) Sythoff. After serving in the US Navy, he moved to Pontiac, Michigan. In 1989 he retired from General Motors-Fischer Body in Pontiac. He married Lyvonne Walls Hughes on April 19, 1997. They moved to Tennessee for 5 years and then to the Thumb in 2002, first to Caseville and later Sebewaing. In retirement he began a second career in ministry, pastoring Faith Bible Baptist Church in Sebewaing and as a chaplain for Huron County Jail. He is a member of Son’s Life Missionary Church in Sebewaing.

Carolyn T. Wooster “Connie, 95, of Pigeon, Michigan passed away on June 27, 2021. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 21, 1925 to the late Sarah (Swackhammer) and Galen Case. In February 1946, Connie married Jack Wooster, her childhood sweetheart. They raised their two children in Royal Oak. Together they shared a love of family, the outdoors, and their beloved Springer Spaniels. Jack preceded her in death in 2004. In response to a nursing shortage during World War II, Connie became a cadet nurse at Grace Hospital in Detroit. She went on to work as a surgical nurse and then a public health nurse in Oakland County. She graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in special education, and worked with physically or otherwise handicapped children. She taught for 13 years in Royal Oak Schools. During their retirement in Bay Port, Connie loved working in her flower beds, listening to big band music, feeding birds, and watching tennis on T.V. She was a devoted wife and a magical mother and grandmother. Thoughtful and creative to the core, she brought a mix of joy, excitement and anticipation to every birthday and holiday. Taking care of her family was her greatest joy in life.

Patrick A. Adams, 68, of Kinde passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at home with his family by his side after a 25 year battle with diabetes. Patrick was born January 11, 1953 in Bay City to the late James W. and Ruth A. (Ludwig) Adams. He grew up on the south side of Bay City and was a 1971 graduate of Bay City Central High School. On June 17, 1972 he met the love of his life and soulmate, Edna Mae Karle. The two were married December 9, 1972 in Elkton. Patrick hired into Tower Automotive (formerly Active Industries) on August 30, 1972. He retired on July 1, 2019, two months shy of 47 years, due to health problems. He was a member of Hayes United Methodist Church in Pigeon. Patrick enjoyed reading, rooting for the Tigers and Lions, playing poker and board games, watching movies and coin collecting.

Donna J. (Simmons) Cross of Caro, age 82, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Donna was born March 30, 1939 in Dwight Township, the daughter of the late Leslie and Hazel (Carson) Simmons and was a 1957 graduate of Elkton High School. She was employed as an attendant nurse at the Caro Center for over twenty-five years. Donna volunteered with the American Legion and also with the Department of Health and Human Services as a driver. She enjoyed bingo, scratch off lottery, tending to her flower gardens, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren.

Anthony Koroleski Jr., lifelong farmer, 93 of Dwight Twp., Kinde, Michigan, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, with his family by his side, at Huron Medical Care Facility following a stroke. Anthony was born at home, in Dwight Twp., on January 20, 1928, to Gertrude (Miller/Krzeszewski), and Anthony Koroleski Sr. He attended Kelly School, Dwight Twp., and was a championship soccer player and was an A student He graduated in 8th grade, and returned to the family farm on Kinde Rd. In December 1950, he was drafted to the U.S. Army, trained in Fort Hood, TX. He rode a ship to Heidelberg, Germany and served thru 1952 during the Korean Conflict as a jeep driver and was top secret messenger to the higher ranks. He was Honorably discharged from Fort Custer, Battle Creek, MI. Anthony thereafter went to Detroit to work at Dodge Main, with his brother Fred; then worked a short time at Active Industries, Elkton. He met the love of his life, Jacqueline Hyzer, and was married at St. Felix Catholic church, in 1954. He dairy farmed with his wife and children until 1984; then cattle and crop farmed until he was 84 years old. He went to work at Gemini Plastics, Ubly, and worked with Ed Goretski at his shop until his retirement. He and Jackie wintered in Bullhead City, AZ, and in Ocala, FL. Anthony was a shareholder of the Farmer’s Co-Operative Grain Company, a member of Annunciation of the Lord parish, and an usher for many years at St. Edwards Parish.  Was a member of the VFW, Kinde Post, and Port Austin American Legion. Played golf and shuffle board with friends and his kids, loved to read and learn, gardening and roses. He loved his wife and family most of all, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Enjoyed farming, crop checking, a short one of whiskey with anyone who stopped by, western movies, military movies, and supporting the veterans of the U.S. services, as well as children services across the country.

Milton S. “Butch†Nehring, 78 of Bad Axe, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Vadavilla AFC in Unionville. Butch was born December 5, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Martin and Inez (Pieffle) Nehring. He moved to Michigan in 1964. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was a former member of the Elkton Jaycee’s and Elkton Ambulance. He loved spending time with his family.
