Biography

Bruce H. DeChane, 66, of Elkton, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on Dec. 15, 1945 in Bad Axe, son of Gerald Lee and Ilene (Bannick) DeChane Sr. He married Gloria Pulcer-Gleason on July 11, 1997. Bruce was employed at Valley Enterprises in Ubly and was part owner and operator of D & P Appliance in Bad Axe from 1986-1991. He also served as vice-president of DeChane Cabinet Shop in Bad Axe. He loved boating and enjoying the sun, sand, and water.

Biography

Mitchell W. Lojek age 72, of Lake Twp. passed away peacefully Monday morning, March 12, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born February 6, 1940, to the late Jacob and Anna (Kukula) Lojek in Hamtramck. Mitchell lived in the Detroit area most of his life. Following high school, he attended college for two years. He then took a position with Prompt Pattern, Detroit. He remained with them for 14 years before starting his own business in 1971, Tri-County Pattern, retiring in 2010. He purchased a lot in Lake Twp. in 1970 and started building his dream cottage with his wife, Toni and in 2001 they moved there permanently. Mitchell was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and still enjoyed crafting things from wood.

Biography

Jody Shawn Beachy, age 38 of Pigeon/Caseville, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and good friend went to be with her Lord and Savior after a diligent battle with a short term illness at 7:26 PM, Thursday, March 8, at the University of Michigan Hospital with her family and friends at her side. She was born August 26, 1973 to Eldon and Joanne (Caister) Beachy at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Jody was a beloved friend to many and a loyal Detroit Tiger fan. She can be remembered for her remarkable strength and talent on and off the golf course. She enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and fishing, and just having the breeze blow through her hair. Her family and friends were her life. Jody’s spirit runs strong through all whose lives she touched with her dimpled smile and incredible laugh. Jody, our little dare-devil, we will miss you. She was a 1991 graduate of Laker High School. In 1990, the Beachy family purchased Lefty’s Drive-In in Bay Port, Michigan. This was the beginning of Jody’s heart and soul of Lefty’s Incorporated. In 1998, Jody and her father, Eldon Beachy, created Lefty’s Diner and Drive-in in Caseville. Jody’s hand in this creation was partially the Left, however, mostly the “Right” She will be well remembered serving it up, in her white apron, for all her loyal friends and customers whom sparked her flame to succeed at her “Okie Dokie” Diner. Through 22 years of culinary experience, she was greatly appreciated by many. Her achievement of several winning Cheeseburger competitions was a shining glory to her blessed success.

Biography

Charlene Marie Zimmer, age 64, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw, following a lingering illness. The former Charlene Ignash was born March 12, 1947 in Bad Axe to the late Leonard and Esther (Wrubel) Ignash. On September 13, 1975, she was united in marriage with Norman Zimmer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kinde. Char was a graduate of Kinde High School with the class of 1968. In 1972, she hired into Saginaw Steering Gear and worked there until her retirement in June of 2001. The Zimmers moved to rural Mayville in 1975 where they have lived since. Char and Norman retired on the same day, and have enjoyed their retirement to the fullest, fishing, trips to casinos, travel, and attending car shows. Most winters they spent two months in Florida. In earlier years she loved baking, canning, bowling, and playing cards.

Biography

He was born on December 21, 1926 in Port Hope, the son of the late Louis and Mamie (Dobson) Detgen. Ernest was united in marriage to Norma Jean McDonald. He was a good husband, great dad, fun grandfather and dependable friend. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII in the Asian Campaign. He owned Detgen Ready Mix in Bad Axe and Mayville, and constructed homes on Beech Street. Ernest knew the value and sanctity of family and instilled a deep sense of love and commitment for this in his children. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.

She was born on June 22, 1919 in Huron City to the late Barney and Lillian (Beggs) Thrushman. She and Lyle Maynard were united in marriage in May of 1976. He preceded her in death in 1995. Iva worked as a packer for the automotive wiring industry for over 25 years, retiring in 1975

He was born on August 21, 1938 in Harbor Beach to the late Kenneth and Mabel (Davidson) Ramsey. He and Roberta Froelich were united in marriage on October 27, 1962 in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Ed served in the US Army his entire career retiring after 27 years in 1984 as Chief Warrant Officer. He also worked as a program manager for Sierra Research out of Buffalo, NY. Ed was Mayor of Harbor Beach, for three terms. He was a member of the American Legion of Harbor Beach. He especially enjoyed his time with family and friends, as he could make anyone smile and laugh.

She was constant unwavering support to Ervin as they Pastored the church for 3 decades. She loved her ceramic friends, circle of friends and camping at the Woodlands Campground near Hale, MI. She loved and was proud of her entire family and hosts of friends.

Virginia Kaye “Ginnie” Haley, age 70, of Sebewaing, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. She was born in Bay City December 3, 1941 as Virginia Kaye Brown. She was raised by her mother Katherine Valeck Tomich and her step father Michael Tomich. Ginnie attended Country School in Saginaw County and graduated from Saginaw High in 1959. She was united in marriage to Burton “Butch” Raymond Gettel on July 23, 1960. He passed away October 22, 1971. They had three children: Deborah, Craig and Lee. Ginnie married Ervin Haley November 11, 1972. He has two daughters: Annette and Debra Lynn.

Biography

Mrs. Wodwaski was born May 19, 1912 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Albert and Lucy (Ceglarek) Chwalisz. She married John Wodwaski, Sr. on June 14, 1933 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1984. Emma attended St. Mary of the Angels School in Chicago. She worked as a telephone operator in Chicago before her marriage and also worked at the Babe Ruth Candy Company. She lived in Parisville most of her life and moved to the Midland area in 2005. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Emma loved getting together with her family, traveling, reading and playing cards. She was noted for her baking, especially her bread. First and foremost was her faith, with a special devotion to Mary, and the rosary.

Biography

He was born August 14, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late Kenneth and Gertrude (Carey) Bowers. Russell was united in marriage to Doris Holdwick on October 19, 1957, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Russ served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer in Germany from 1960 to 1962. In 1963, he then worked was employed by the Huron County Road Commission. He was a dedicated and hard worker, receiving promotions until he reached the position of superintendent/assistant manager which he held for the majority of 36 years. Russell always loved keeping busy. He worked hard planting trees, cutting and splitting firewood, building and grooming trails on his 40 acres that he truly loved. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren that he cherished so much. Russell was a long-time member at Bad Axe Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsman’s Club.

Biography

He was born June 24, 1924 in Port Austin Township, the son of the late Louis and Mary (Pincoski) Horetski. Fr. Joseph Dudek presided at the marriage of Richard Louis Horetski and Edna T. Vigenski on November 20, 1942, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2005. Richard was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Port Austin. He was a dairy farmer for many years and he crop farmed until becoming a resident of Courtney Manor in September of 2007. Farming was the love of his life.

Joe was born on January 23, 1928 in Harbor Beach to the late Lucas and Anna (Hessling) Priemer. He married June Walker on February 16, 1952. Joe was a retired farmer. He also retired from Leader Tool. He was an avid fan of education and donated largely to the Michigan State Education Fund. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed playing euchre at the House of Knowledge.

Biography

Agnes was born on September 28, 1919 in Minden City to the late Peter and Susan (Sofka) Lemanski. She married August Abraham on June 15, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Agnes attended the Minden City School and received her religious education from St. Mary’s in Parisville. She worked in the creamery in Ruth as a bookkeeper and a butter maker. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. She farmed, milked cows and drove cattle trucks. She and August ran two milk routes. Agnes was a carpenter and enjoyed building fences. She also enjoyed planting flowers, puzzles, gardening, canning. Agnes truly enjoyed entertaining, especially having “lunches” and making delectable food for all attending.

Charles W. Piper Charles W. Piper, age 85 of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Port Huron Hospital. He was born on August 21, 1926 in his home in Sherman Township, to the late Daniel and Jenny (Emiling) Piper. Charles and RoseMary Kramer were united in marriage on September 26, 1952. She preceded him in death on June 7, 1977. Charles Served in the US Army during World War II, and also as a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes. He was a member of the Parisville VFW. Bill worked for Automotive Industries in Owendale. He retired from Prestolite in 1988 where he worked as a Millwright. Bill was a lifelong farmer. He was a self taught machinist and enjoyed working in his shop at home. He was a helping hand of the neighborhood fixing projects the neighbors brought by. Bill collected tractors of all types but particularly John Deere tractors. He loved attending engine shows and garage sales. Bill was a man of great faith in the Lord. He was honest and true to his word. He was generous and would give you the shirt off his back. Bill loved and adored his granddaughters.

Biography

Gladys M. Anthes, 88, of Cass City, died following a long illness, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit in Cass City. She was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Cass City, to Harold Edward and Mabel Lucille (Albrant) Dickinson. She married Clifford Robinson Feb. 25, 1941, in Ubly. He died Sept. 22, 1986. She later married Albert James Anthes on Sept. 4, 1988, in Cass City. Gladys worked at the former Caro State Hospital, Huron County Medical Care Facility, and Cass City Hospital as a Nurse Attendant. She was a 4-H leader in Huron County for 25 years. She touched and guided many members in so many ways through all 4-H projects. She taught many classes through 4-H for the fairs, talent acts and horse club activities. The most recent clubs being Midnight Riders and Fun Flowers. Gladys loved clowns and clowning. She attended many clown workshops and provided her own workshops for others through 4-H. She was very instrumental in providing entertainment for the Thumb Electric Days in Ubly and Caro Regional Center (Wahjamega). Gladys served as a volunteer at elementary schools in Arcadia, Fla. for many winters. She loved teaching and entertaining and shared this gift with many children in Michigan and in Florida throughout the years. Gladys was a former member of Ubly Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. She attended Cass City United Methodist Church. Gladys was an artist using many mediums for her paintings and drawings including oil paint, watercolors, pencils and charcoals. She took many art classes while in Florida. She wrote many poems and short stories having some published in the Senior News, Michigan Farmer and Christian Magazine.

Biography

Harland M. Lounsbury, 87, of Cass City died following a long illness Monday, February 27, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was born May 10, 1924 at home in Elkland Township to Emory O. and Gladys (Perry) Lounsbury. He married Elenora Bishop June 14, 1942 in Caro. She died June 21, 2004. Harland served in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Okinawa. When he returned he drove an MMPA milk route before deciding to begin dairy farming on his own. He attended Technical School learning mechanics and later took a job as Service Manager with Auten Ford dealership. He was a member of Tyler Lodge #317 F & AM in Cass City. Harland was a member of the American Legion and Cass City United Methodist Church serving on many committees including the Building Committee. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything. Harland set up a sawmill a few years back and enjoyed the work he did there. He loved his pond and fishing for bass in the pond. He also enjoyed hunting pheasant and especially deer. Harland was an avid reader, particularly of Westerns. He enjoyed watching sports on television especially football and basketball.

Following college, he was employed at Tower Automotive and then later was employed at Caparo Vehicle Components Inc. for 11 years in Novi, MI. Gary was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. He enjoyed coaching his son in Little League Baseball, supporting his daughter at horse shows, along with hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and son and showed it in many ways by spending as much time as possible with his family.
