Biography

Arnold H. Koehn, age 77 of Harbor Beach, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Sanilac Medical Care Facility in Sandusky. Arnold was born on September 18, 1946 in Harbor Beach to the late Arnold J. and Elda (Koglin) Koehn. Arnold H. and Shirley Peterson were married on December 18, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. Arnold was an active member of Zion all his life, holding many offices of service. His career involved working for the U.S. Postal Service serving as clerk then Postmaster at Harbor Beach and Port Hope. Arnold served his country in the Army, National Guard and Reserves. He was a Life Member of the AmVets Post 115 of Port Hope serving as past commander. Arnold was also a 55 year life member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach. Where he was very active recruiting new member and holding many service offices.

Lonnie L. Herr, 75, of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 in Pinckney while under hospice care. Lonnie was born January 24, 1949 in Imlay City to the late George and Stella (Spencer) Herr. He married Toni Heim on June 13, 1970 in Imlay City; she preceded him in death on January 4, 2016. Lonnie retired from AM General as a Quality Control Director in 2010. After retiring he moved from Canton to Caseville. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Almont-Dryden Lodge. He enjoyed fishing with his father, flying gliders, traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ellen was born August 13, 1927 in Deerfield Twp to the late Cecil and Leone (Stephenson) Larkin. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and later attended Michigan State University studying Early Childhood Education. She married Edward H. Wolford on February 22, 1948 in Negaunee; he preceded her in death on December 23, 2002. Ellen retired as a teacher having worked for the Head Start Program and special education. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church and Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout Leader and was devoted to her family.

Ron was proceeded in death by brothers Lawrence and Leonard Sobczak. Ron had a big heart and great sense of humor. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, going on trips to casinos and the tranquility of living along the shores of Lake Huron.

July 7, 1949 - July 6, 2024 Ron Sobczak, of Port Hope, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born in Bad Axe to the late Leonard and Beatrice (Glaza) Sobczak. He graduated from Lakeshore High School in St. Clair Shores. He proudly served in the Vietnam War as an Enlisted (E-4) soldier in the 545th MPCO 1st Calvary Division. Following his military service, he became a well-known business owner with his brother, operating Sobczak Construction. Ron was a true patriot and a lifelong member of the America Legion.

Dorothy Ordus, 78 years old of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on July 9, 2024, at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe. Dorothy was born in Brussels, Belgium to the late Arthur and Josianne Helmick on January 22, 1946. As a child, Dorothy moved to the U.S. and resided in Melvindale where she later met her husband George Ordus Sr. They were married in Lincoln Park on September 21, 1963. In 1976, they moved to Bad Axe and started George Ordus Ford. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spent many summers by the water in their family cottage, where she loved to have her family come and visit and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Frank was born on Decemeber 24, 1948 to the late George and Margaret (Kranz) Zinger in Harbor Beach, Michigan. He was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School. Frank served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Frank married the love of his life, Audrey Brown, on September 18, 1981 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Frank worked at and retired from Sensient Flavors. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, putting together puzzles, playing solitaire, and spending time with his family.

Biography

Esther (Hereim) Evans a lifelong resident of Bad Axe went home to join her savior on July 2nd, 2024 at the age of 67. Esther graduated from Bad Axe public schools before attending Michigan State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. Using her passion to teach and help all, she returned to Bad Axe where she taught at Bad Axe Public Schools for 33 years and touched so many students lives. While attending Michigan State University Esther found a fervent love for God through the on campus His House Ministry. She carried this love throughout her life as an active participant in her church. From serving as a deaconess, to teaching Sunday School, to being an active VBS leader she served her church families at Elkton Missionary or Bad Axe Free Methodist faithfully while she attended. Next to her love of God, nothing was more important to her than her family. Esther married Walter Evans on July 26th, 1980. They were blessed with their two sons Isaiah and Matthew. She supported her sons as a loud and proud sports mom, team chauffer, and taxi driver to her son’s numerous activities. Rarely missing one of her son’s activities she found the joy in watching them struggle and persevere in their endeavors. Her love extended beyond her own sons, embracing all their friends and so many other children offering a place of love and support for any in need. Her blessings continued as a grandma, enjoying watching her grandkids grow and learn. As a caring volunteer to the community, she loved sharing the Word of God with people everywhere she went. Esther’s big heart, warm hugs, sense of humor, generosity and stubbornness will be missed by all.

Biography

Anna Kubacki, age 93 of Ubly, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Anna was born on January 29, 1931 in Cass City, Tuscola County on North Hurds Corner Road to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Drotar/Goda) Rusnak. Anna married Raymond Kubacki on July 9, 1955 at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Gagetown. They then resided on a farm southeast of Ubly for 39 years. They moved to Ubly in the fall of 1994. Raymond preceded her in death in May of 1999. She attended Hillside Country School and then graduated from Cass City High School in 1949. She attended County Normal in Caro for a year and then summer sessions at CMU. She became a country schoolteacher and taught at the South Tyre School in Sanilac County for 5 years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Ubly since 1955. She belonged to Christian Mothers – St. Ann Circle. Anna taught religious education for her parish for 19 years. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary – Parisville Post 5740 since 1978. She held the office of Senior Vice-President for 6 years and was the secretary until its disbandment in 2018. Anna loved to do crafts, quilting, reading, crocheting, knitting, and puzzles. She also loved playing Mrs. Santa in her later years.

Nancy Ann Kraft, 92, of Pigeon, was called home peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at home. Nancy was born June 12, 1931 in Grayling to the late George and Marian (Breinager) Carpenter. She was made a child of God through Holy Baptism on April 21, 1935. Nancy married Lowell E. Kraft on May 3, 1952 in Bronson, Michigan. They celebrated 70 years of marriage shortly before Lowell’s passing in 2022. Nancy’s sister, Mary Kay Prudden passed away in 2023. Nancy graduated from Pigeon High School in 1949. She attended Michigan State University and later Central Michigan University finishing the last two years of her teaching degree while her children were young. She taught second and third grades at the Pigeon Elementary School in the 1960’s. Nancy always enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them kindness, compassion, and love. Nancy was a gifted homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Always an optimist, she was a talented seamstress with a fun sense of humor who enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and playing Bridge. She enjoyed traveling with Lowell and spending winters at their home in Boynton Beach, Florida. While in Florida they attended Divine Savior Lutheran Church in West Palm Beach. She has been a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne since 1952.
