Bad Axe Barber Fred Mazure Put His Shears Away Wednesday November 26th

Longtime Bad Axe barber Fred Mazure gave his final haircut on Wednesday, November 26th, closing out a 63 year career that began in Detroit and brought him to Michigan's Thumb in 1969.
His last customer was Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, who joked with Mazure about a night years ago when he had to drive the barber home after he'd had too much to drink, and the two recalled the days when Mazure cut inmates' hair before Hanson became sheriff.
Mazure, who called barbering a dying profession, said he is unsure what comes next but felt it was time to hang up his clippers, as friends, customers and even his mail carrier stopped in to wish him well (and take his last piece of mail from Mazure), marking the quiet retirement of a man who had become a fixture in downtown Bad Axe.
