A quick and coordinated response by five area fire departments prevented the total destruction of a home in Fremont Township early Tuesday morning, after a structure fire fully engulfed a detached garage and a motor home.
The Mayville Fire Department was dispatched to the scene on Ambrose Road at approximately 3:06 AM.
Upon arrival, fire crews were immediately confronted with a serious situation: the detached garage was fully involved in flames, and the fire was already spreading toward the single-story residence. A motor home, parked directly between the two structures, was also burning.
The intensity of the blaze prompted a multi-department response, with additional crews from the Vassar, Caro, Kingston, and Fostoria Fire Departments arriving to assist. Working together, the teams focused on suppression and water supply operations, successfully stopping the fire's progression and preventing the total loss of the main residence.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:33 AM, with fire crews remaining on the scene for extensive overhaul until 6:34 AM.
While the home was ultimately saved, the damage was significant. The garage, motor home, and their contents were a total loss and the residence itself sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage.
The Mayville Ambulance was on the scene to evaluate one occupant for chest pain; no injuries were reported among the firefighters. DTE Energy was requested to the location to secure and disconnect utilities.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
