Owendale planning work on several projects (Huron County)

Some much needed upgrades are expected to happen this year in the village of Owendale.
Village Clerk Randy Howard reported the grant program, which may be available for the sewer lagoon repair project, has been reauthorized.
Village will be working with Plante-Moran along with Fleis & Vandenbrink to try to secure funding again through state and federal grants and loans for that project.
Previously, Owndale had been approved for funding to do sewer lagoon work, but that didn't happen.
The work wasn't done because there were no bids from contractors to do the necessary repair work for the lagoon.
The lagoon needs to have some valves replaced as well as a pump structure that is wearing out due to tonnage.
The repairs need to be done to meet compliance regulations of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Standard (EGLE).
Village officials are also working with representatives from Peerless Midwest on the well and pump house project.
Regarding some other needs, Howard reported he checked with the United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development (USDA/RD) about obtaining a grant for a police vehicle, but there are no grants available at this time just loans so no action was taken.
Also, Howard reported he contacted Plante-Moran about regulations regarding non-motorized vehicle paths.
He explained they told him that if the village has a contract in place by Feb. 28 for work to be done this year, the village would meet the requirements for that project.
In addition, the DPW superintendent is working on getting bids to do a section of sidewalk work at the corner of Main and Fifth Street.
