There will soon be a large vacant area in the heart of downtown Sebewaing when some businesses meet a wrecking ball.

Protective perimeter fences have been put up along Center Street in front of the businesses that will be demolished.

The former businesses that are about to become history are located at 42 North Center Street, and the other building is located at 50 North Center Street.

Those buildings used to house a restaurant, a theater and a former beauty shop and some of those businesses had apartments above them.

Those buildings have been vacant for several years and are in disrepair.

The village was able to work out an agreement with the Huron County Economic Development Corporation, and the Huron County Land Bank for a demolition grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help cover the cost of leveling those buildings and cleaning up the area.
