Akron Township approves funds for fire hall (Tuscola County)

The ACW-Unionville Fire Department continues efforts to build a new fire hall in the village of Unionville.
The fire department comprises the townships of Akron, Columbia, and Wisner, and the village of Unionville.
Each governmental entity has a member who serves on the fire department's board and contributes money towards its operation.
Akron Township Supervisor Steve Linzner made a motion to rescind the motion that was made back on May 29, 2024 to use some of the township's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds the township received from the federal government to offset the financial impact of the COVID pandemic funds of phase two of the proposed new fire hall.
A motion was made then to use $12,174 of general fund money instead for the fire hall for phase two.
The board also set the meeting dates for 2025. The board will meet on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the township hall at 4280 Bay City-Forestville Rd., Unionville.
